Call 'em Froghat, Foghart, Hogfart, whatever twist on their odd name you want, this was the premier boogie band of the '70s without a doubt, and before they nose-dived in the '80s they had one last gasp of greatness with "Stone Blue." This collection is their classic format: Superb original rock'n'roll like the title cut, "Easy Money," and especially "Midnight Madness" (my fave but sadly underappreciated by the mass audience) paired with their inimitable versions of timeless blues tracks like Robert Johnson's (the father of the blues) "Sweet Home Chicago," Elmore James's "It Hurts Me Too," and Earl McDaniel's "Chevrolet."

The other two cuts are throwaways, but the six listed above are so solid and so well worth repeated plays that I can't rate this less than five stars. It ranks with "Fool For the City" and "Energized" as their best ever.

Another fine album by Foghat. If you like rock, boogie, and blues Foghat probably has something you will enjoy. Always music with a great beat and fun to listen to, this is one of their best, next to FOOL FOR THE CITY, ROCK & ROLL OUTLAWS, and DRIVIN' WHEEL.

Every song here is worth listening to, but the above average songs are "Chevrolet", "Sweet Home Chicago", and "Midnight Madness". Wait, though, there's more! Great songs include "Easy Money", "Stone Blue", and my favorite "It Hurts Me Too". Foghat always manages to bring an appealing sound to every release. Even though much of their music is blues based, they always seem to sound uptempo. Maybe it's just to make us think it's all okay.

If you are new to Foghat you may want to give their Greatest Hits a try, so, you can better decide if you would like to pursue their individual releases. Foghat will help you remember when music felt good and was fun. Excellent musicians, production, and tunes.

If you like guitar,blues and great rock'n'roll mixed together than welcome to some perfection Lonesome Dave's way. Rod Price on lead/slide is off the charts, Dave's vocals are right on and the bass section superb. Seven great cuts and one average, best rocked up renditions of It Hurt's Me Too, Chevrolet and Sweet Home Chicago you'll ever hear make this album a Blues/Rock must own. Now add Stone Blue, Midnight Madness, Easy Money and High On Love for some harder edge and you have a GREAT album. This album is in my top 25 list. Hear it, buy it. Look around at any 'greatest hits' album for Foghat, and you'll usually see "Slow Ride" and "Fool For The City" listed... it's rare that you'll find "Stone Blue" on any of them. Of course, when you do find "Slow Ride" or "Stone Blue" on a greatest hits album, it's *always* the 'radio edit' version... the version hacked and slashed until it would fit into the 70's and 80's airplay limit of 3 minutes. The *only* place you'll find these two songs in their original mint condition is on their original albums ("Slow Ride", of course, was on "Fool For The City", while "Stone Blue" is right here).

If you like Foghat, then you need this album. If you like rocking blues, then you need this album. If you like righteous guitar that doesn't scream like a burning cat but instead sounds like a guitar should, then you need this album.

Just the song "Stone Blue" alone is worth the album... 6 minutes of Rod Price and 'Lonesome Dave' Peverett cranking out the blues and slide guitars, and all of it guaranteed to keep you glued in front of the speakers - but that's not all this album has to offer.

In the early 80's Foghat started doing more of a standard rock sound, doing less and less of their original blues and slide... this album is one of the last of their true blues roots, and it is very good.

This is a noticeably harder rock album than Foghat had ever made previously. The sound has a harder edge to it, and has a pretty fast pace. It still has a blues base, but they seem to be drifting a bit from their blues base here. Mind you, it's still a good Foghat album, just different from "Night Shift" - a little less bluesy, and little more rocking. Still full of slide guitar, as we have come to expect from Foghat - slide guitar is really their signature sound.

My favorite cuts on this album are "Stone Blue", "Sweet Home Chicago", and the ballady "It Hurts Me Too". This last one is an interesting one; it starts out as a ballady type song, and, later on, starts to "light up" as Rod Price cranks on the slide guitar.

"Sweet Home Chicago" is an old blues song, but Foghat really lights a fire under it. It's one of my favorite Foghat tunes!

I bought this when it first came out on 8-track, I was a big Foghat fan and had Fool for the City and LIVE, but I guess I'll have to say this is Foghat's best with tracks like "EASY MONEY" "CHEVROLET" "IT HURTS ME TOO" and the title track this whole cd is great..damn the 1970's in general was just packed full of GREAT rock and roll music, Someone new to Foghat may wanna start off with "LIVE" but don't let this one get past you great,great boogie/rock and roll..R.I.P. LONESOME DAVE>>>

This album came out just as the pop music scene in America was starting it's headfirst dive into the putrid pool that was the disco era. The title song described exactly what this album did for me personally - it helped me through.

From driving rock with melody line AND lyrics to soulful solos - you can't go wrong!

Stone Blue (1978) is the best overall, studio Foghat album out there (Fool for the City with the classic Slowride is a close second). From the title cut, Stone Blue, to Sweet Home Chicago, to Easy Money, to Chevrolet, this disc is consistent, almost to the point of being a concept album. The production is superb. The Brits bros got it right with this disc.

Because when your are Stone Blue rock and roll like this will help you through!!!

... That mediocre stuff is peddled and this is just ranked 51,075. This should be required listening for any real rock fan!!!

Oh well, I will hunt up my copy and be happy.

Also worth checking out if you want some real rock UFO, Nazareth, and Deep Purple. On the progressive side Asia is also under rated. Unfortunately, if you know who Foghat is you are probably already familiar with these fine bands.

Stone Blue is a track that stands out but if memory serves me everything on this recording is good. One may want to just get a best of which also contains Stone Blue and other great tracks. It totally baffles me why Stone Blue never got more air play. I guess everyone was to busy requesting better known Foghat songs. Personally Stone Blue is my all time favorite Foghat song to the point other tracks on this recording are neglected in my memory.

Still this recording is better then most of the 50,000+ that have beaten it in sales. This is the kind of music that improves your day when you really need it. This could make a good gift for a young person who likes 70s music but probably has never heard of Foghat.
