Book Description

C.F. Goldblatt's best selling adventure series first installment, Stone Shot, is an action packed narrative designed to thrill anyone with a sense of adventure and a love for the sea.

The first installment in the Luke Dodge adventure trilogy, Stone Shot begins with the tale of Luke Dodge's dealings with love and adventure on the open ocean and beyond.

Join Luke as he dodges from the Southern California coastline to Rio de Janerio, Haiti, Mexico, and back, straddling the threshold between humankind and mother nature, searching for a place between both worlds to call his own.

Luke's adventures find him sailing to Rio, where the hot Brazilian days and sultry nights bring a new onslaught of mayhem, romance, and action. He returns home to find a raging California wildfire has incinerated his mother's home and the life he knew. Always on the upswing, Luke finds a new opportunity to save his mother and satisfy his lust for life by traveling to Haiti to collect a gold-tipped conch shell. As soon as Luke returns from Haiti, he's off on another adventure: Baja California and a beautiful, intriguing doctor named Nici who could just be the love of his life.

Dive in and learn how Luke Dodge found his place among the waves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!! April 12, 2014

I just got back from my sailing trip with Luke. Let me tell you a bit about Luke. He is a man of the sea who loves the ocean. He got into an accident while at sea which led to a depression. It was the call of the sea that brought him back. I really enjoyed spending time with Nici as well. She is is just perfect for Luke. They look so natural together. I really did not like Captain Tom but we learned a lot. Dion and Josh are a couple of riots. They are always trying to compete for something. Luke told me about this contest he had to enter in order to get the 200K prize in order to get his mom the open heart operation she needs. He said he needed the Stone Shot!

This was certainly an adventurous novel to read. I had such a great time reading it. It would be nice to see this novel turned into a series!!! A++++

5.0 out of 5 stars Evocative and powerful, Stone Shot soars April 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The ocean. Serene. Tranquil. Beautiful. But there is a flip side, a dangerous side to it. A side which is brutish and unforgiving, cold and heartless. It is nature in a nutshell, immensely powerful and amoral.

Imagine loving the ocean, the way the water sounds caressing the hull of a boat, the salty tang lingering in the air. And then one day a terrifying event on the water fractures that love, a sinking boat suddenly reminiscent of a watery divorce. How would you respond? How would you cope?

Stone Shot: A Luke Dodge Adventure Novel is beyond an adventure story, it is a wonderfully complex and shrewd psychological novel, subtly exploring the very essence of the book’s protagonist, Luke Dodge. Goldblatt’s talent for characterization and pacing is tremendous, a writing virtuoso. The tension builds immediately; I found myself holding my breath within the first few pages, turning pages quickly, seeking resolution.

The reader connects almost instantly with Luke, and this connection only deepens as Goldblatt explores Luke’s psyche. It is difficult not to feel the emotions bubbling up in Luke, to not suffer his pain and distress. It is gripping, like a vise around your heart, slowly squeezing. Stone Shot is a deep and richly rewarding novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best ocean-themed novels ever. April 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Two of my brothers (and one sister-in-law) are lovers of the sea and even though it isn't their bread and butter, they worked as underwater welders and swam with sharks so I'm extra fond of adventure stories with an ocean setting. Stone Shot is now one of my favorites.

I was taken with this story before it even began because of the author's foreward. He talks about his character Luke and, though he's fictional, how all the experiences in the book are based on factual events from the author's life. He then delves a bit into how the initial incident in the book completely changed his relationship with the sea. It was so well narrated; I knew without a doubt the book was going to be amazing.

I was right.

The scenes are set perfectly and are three dimensional. You not only have a vivid image, but your other senses are engaged as well because you can taste the salt, hear the waves, and feel the buoyancy. The descriptions are as incredible as the narrative.

You climb right inside Luke's head as he struggles with PTSD. You witness his life crumbling day after day. Each flashback scene of his past helped me to connect on a deeper level with him and by the end he could've been one of my brothers. I felt the angst from his early youth and saw how the loss of his father shaped his relationship with the sea. This is definitely a coming-of-age story, as well as an adventure. There are so many elements, I think everyone will connect on some level and find it enjoyable.

I saw on Goodreads that the two other books have been published that complete this trilogy. Where are they on Amazon? (I really want to know the rest of the Nici/Luke story) I'd love a head's up if anyone knows where I can buy them. Thank you! And I can't neglect to mention that the term "stone shot" is explained in the book, which is great since I had no idea.

Five stars across the board, definitely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Enjoyable Book April 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a while.
I got sucked into the plot within the first few pages, and it kept me addicted all the way until I finished the last page.
In my opinion, that's a winning quality in any book.
The entire book is very well written as well. It was easy to read, the scenes were vivid & immersive, and it makes you feel like you're really there inside the book.
Overall, I definitely recommend this book. I can't wait for a sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Sea-Faring Thriller! April 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book grabbed me from the beginning and wouldn't let go, it's one of those reads that will keep you turning (virtual) pages until 2 am! Loosely based on true events, the author pulls on his past experiences to create a thrilling tale. The action was so masterfully written that I often felt like I was there in the water, gasping for breath and needing to remind myself to breath.

The romance that developed later felt natural, and was a nice addition to the story without feeling forced or contrived. I also loved how it showed Luke’s interactions with his family, especially his mother. The pacing was good through-out; I enjoyed it from cover to cover.

It’s probably worth noting that there is also quite a bit of swearing in a few parts (they ARE sailors, after all). This was not a problem for me (and seems pretty realistic in context), but may be an issue for a concerned parent with a young reader. Perhaps the worst part of the book is when it ends! I eagerly look forward to any future adventures that this author decides to share with us.
