Knot Your Average Band.,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
Before he got pigeonholed as the mask-wearing, profanity-spewing frontman of Slipknot, Corey Taylor resurrected Stone Sour, his original group, in 2002. And it's a good thing he did! Few people realize just what a dynamic vocalist he can be, and with Stone Sour's proper debut, Taylor shows off all he is capable of. Heck, I'm not the biggest fan of the 'Knot, but I was really surprised when I heard Stone Sour for the first time.
There are obviously elements of Stone Sour that smell like Slipknot (afterall, they also share a guitarist in James Root) but this is one side-project that doesn't end up being merely an extension of the original band. The most recognizable song on here is easily "Bother," a song which you may remember hearing on the radio, seeing on MTV and appearing on the "Spider-Man" soundtrack. "Bother," an all acoustic song, marks a change of pace for Taylor. No more does he have to shriek or scream to get his point across, as this dark ballad displays much depth and emotion in his singing voice, something rarely heard in Slipknot. "Orchids" and "Inhale" are two songs that stand out as well. Both are moderately heavy, but have more modern hard-rock appeal. "Get Inside," the opening track, is obviously intended to gently guide the average Slipknot fan into the album, as it sounds just a bit recycled and familiar, the only downside to the album. For those getting the deluxe version of the album, not only are we treated to a DVD containing all three music videos from the album -- "Get Inside," "Bother" and "Inhale" -- but we also get five bonus tracks. "Road Hogs" and "Kill Everybody" are demo tracks from 2000, and don't really fare well with the rest of the material. However, "Rules Of Evidence," "The Wicked" and "Inside The Cynic" (which popped up on the "Freddy Vs. Jason" soundtrack) are just as good as the rest of the album, and rightfully belong. Overall, it's an outstanding effort, and thankfully, Stone Sour will have a new album out again within the coming weeks. I highly recommend this album to everyone.

Still Love It!!,
By Violet "music maven" (hell) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
It's been two years since this album was released and the guys are going back into the studio to do another this comming January.
This album is one of the best I have heard ever. If you like alternative rock or rock this is the perfect album to have in your collection. Corey's voice really soars over the tracks, this is not as previlant in the three Slipknot albums. Instead of screaming so much he really gets melodic and it's beautiful. Don't get me wrong though this album is still hard like on the tracks "Get Inside", "Cold Reader", "Idle Hands", "Tumult", "The Wicked", and "Kill Everybody". But he shows his true range in his voice on "Monolith", "Inhale", "Bother", "Blue Study", and "Rules of Evidence". But really if anything you should buy the cd for the tracks "Omega" and "Road Hogs". "Omega" is a poem that Corey recites with a lot of emotion. "Road Hogs" is just a funny song(if you understand what it means). And the other person that reviewed this CD and said that if you like older Slipknot then you shouldn't buy this, that's a lie. A lot of the older Slipknot is better than the new stuff. I am a big Slipknot and StoneSour fan, you can be both, ya know. But if your looking for another Slipknot album don't exspect that out of this CD this is a whole other band with their own sound. Another reason for buying this CD is so that you can watch the videos on the DVD over and over, they are really awesome. I don't ever get tired of listening to this album. I can't wait until the next StoneSour album comes out!!!

Corey Taylor Has Returned- Way Better Than Slipknot,
By Phil "leaderoftheplague" (**Classified**) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
MY OPINION: This album is very, very solid. 3/4 of the songs on here are amazing. Bother, the best song on the album, has become one of my favorite songs. Oh, by the way, this is WAY better than any of Slipknot's albums.1.Get Inside-awesome song, and sweet solo 10/10 VIDEOS: Bother, Get Inside, Inhale-all great. 10/10 BOTTOM LINE: If you like Slipknot, then you'll probably like this since Corey and James are in here. Some of the songs, like Get Inside, are reminicent of Slipknot. The bottom line is that this album is awesome.

Awesome heavy metal/hard rock album,
By Matt (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
Since I first heard Slipknot, they were my favorite band. When I heard of vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root taking time off to work on another band I was extremely intrigued. I knew from the start these guys weren't going to be Slipknot Jr., and was I ever right. Mr. Taylor said in an interview that Stone Sour would be what happened if Metallica and Alice In Chains got together and had a kid...well it definitely lives up to his words. This band was actually their other band before they joined Slipknot, and I'm damn glad they decided to bring it back. This album is very diverse, as Taylor's vocal style is. He can scream his balls off just as good as he can sing with one of the best voices I have ever heard. The opener "Get Inside" is a great way to start the album off, but it doesn't really sound like anything else on the cd. Other songs like "Monolith" "Inhale", "Take A Number" and the hit "Bother" are simply brilliant melodic songs that are definitely highlights on here with other hard-rocking greats like "Cold Reader" "Blotter" and the furious "Tumult" will grab you by the throat just as well as the softer songs do. I would have written a review on this cd a long time ago but never got around to doing it, and when I heard a digipak was to be released I damn near sh*t myself, and decided to wait for a review. Well the digipak made the cd even better, with 5 bonus tracks and a DVD of their videos for "Bother" "Get Inside" and "Inhale". The bonus tracks of course are fabulous and i'd have to say "The Wicked" may be my favorite of those. "Kill Everybody" and "Road Hogs" are older demos from back when the guys were rehearsing, and "Road Hogs" is simply awesome as it is hilarious. Depending on where you buy this, it will probably be a tad pricey, but whatever the cost, it's truly worth it. If you don't have this, do yourself a HUGE favor and buy it now, and the same for you who have the original and don't want to buy a more expensive digipak version, TRUST ME it is worth the extra money.

Perfect Special Edition,
By DRIO|1 (Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
As you might know this is a special edition of the debut album, and it's great, because it features the full debut album plus 5 bonus tracks that were actually released on the 3 Stone Sour singles (Get Inside, Inhale, Bother.) But now you have the chance to get this all in one, which is a lot cheaper. Also this special edition gives you a bonus DVD that contains the band's videos (Get Inside, Inhale, Bother.) Which is excellent cuz you get all the Stone Sour music for the price of just one. Since I live in México I got this Special Edition for $37 Dollars, cuz it's a rare import down here in México.
But still a good deal for me.

Wow, Cory can actually sing good.,
By
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
It was bound to happen. The world has found out that Cory Taylor can sing good and not scream all the time. I just bought the digipack and it has literally blown me off my a$$. I heard Bother before on the radio but I didn't like Cory that well then but I started listening to Slipknot and really got into it. I then decided to pick up Stone Sour. I could only find the Digipack but i am thankfull that I did. All the songs are great and I even like the poem Omega. The bonus songs are pretty good too. The vids kick major butt and are well worth the extra money. I hope that Cory and the guitarist (name slips mind) when they get the chance are able to make a sophmore cd and based on this outing i dont think that there will be a "sophmore slump" for Stone Sour.

4.5/5 rounded up to 5...,

This is an amazing album. Here we go with the ratings for each song.
Get Inside - 5/5 - Very Slipknot-ish. The fact that it's so alike yet so different is kind of scary. I love the solo in this song. It in a way, adds to the agressiveness of the overall song. The lyrics are good too. Orchids - 5/5 - This is the first song that I couldn't stop listening to. It's a very good song with an interesting guitar part. I love the vocals because Corey always has a hint of emotion. But in this song, it just screams emotion. Cold Reader - 3/5 - I have to honestly say I don't like this song too much. I can listen to it, but I don't like the way it sounds. It could've been better. Blotter - 5/5 - I love the vocals. Just so interesting. And the way he goes from like the sick demented vocals to the voice we all know and love. Great song. Choose - 5/5 - As a friend of mine said, "Wow those are awesome lyrics!" He stands corrected. I like the beginning where the music switches through each side of your headphones/speakers. He has great vocals on this. Monolith - 5/5 - If you don't love this song, you are seriously like, I don't even know where to begin. This is such a good song. Listen to it and you'll know why it's so hard to explain. Inhale - 5/5 - Another single. But it's amazing so it works. The guitar part is awesome. The vocals on this are very pretty and the lyrics are sad. Good song. Bother - 5/5 - This is the best vocal work I've seen come from Corey to date. It's just so amazing. This song is so sad. And the fact that Corey plays the guitar and sings in this song just makes it so much better. Blue Study - 5/5 - Lyrics are great. The chorus could've been better but it's still a good song. I love the melody and tune of this song. It's amazing. Take A Number - 5/5 - This song should be split up for vocals and lyrics. I maen they are both so amazing. Amazing song. I love it. It's so powerful. Idle Hands - 5/5 - Once again, great lyrics. Great guitar part. I like the vocals on this too. Tumult - 4/5 - I'm not loving the little sounds with the, you know I don't even know what the hell it is. But I like the vocals. Omega - 5/5 - Powerful & turthful. Corey has a hot voice which is a plus i must admit. But I really love this poem. It's amazing. Rules of Evidence - 5/5 - Great lyrics, great song. The Wicked - 5/5 - I don't like the chorus but we can all get over it. It's a good song other than that. I liek the lyrics. Inside The Cynic - 5/5 - Good song, great lyrics, great guitars. Kill Everybody - 5/5 - I'm not sure what the purpose of the little pig noises are (or whatever it is) but besides that, it's an overall good song. Road Hogs - 5/5 - I love this song. It's hilarious if you get it. Vocals are powerful and driven. Great song. Average rating is 4.5 rounded up to 5.

I own both versions of this album, and this one extremely worth the extra money spent.
Right from the beginning, you know this album is gonna make you wanna wreck your neck. Opening with the Blistering track "get inside", then just not stopping until track 8, where they blindside you with Bother, a slow track, that if you havn't heard this by now, then where have you been. This was what put them on the map from the Spider Man soundtrack (listed as Corey Taylor). Other highlights, Inhale and Take A Number. Really all of the tracks on this album are a highlight. If you like slipknot, or just a fan of loud, thrashing, melodic metal, get this album. Also, the DVD (featuring the videos for bother, get inside, and Inhale) and bonus tracks (14. Rules of Evidence 15. Wicked 16. Inside the Cynic 17. Kill Everybody 18. Road Hogs ) are a very excellent addition. All of these songs are all worthy to be on the album originally, but hey, record companies have to make sure they can get more money, it is a business. Get this album, you will not be dissapointed.

Stone Sour (Special Edition),
By Over the Edge "OTE" (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stone Sour (Audio CD)
This CD puts the likes of Corey Taylor and James Root from Slipknot together with a different group of people than Slipknot. With the acception of "Road Hogs", this CD is is an amazing mix of Corey's famous screaming and howls with him actually singing. His voice is amazing, along with the other member's of the bands amazing musical talent. The lyrics are amazing and everything is put together so well that... It's just amazing.
Recomended tracks- 2. "Orchids", 3. "Cold Reader", 6. "Monolith", 7. "Inhale", 8. "Bother", 16. "Inside the Cynic", 17. "Kill Everyone". Although every track is amazing (other than 18. "Road Hogs" and the non musical 13. Omega (which is still pretty damn cool)), these 7 songs are the ones I would choose above all to listen to. |
