Stone Tower delivers dark, eerie ambiance., July 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Stone Tower (Audio CD)
Although not the best Delerium CD I have ever heard, Stone Tower is quite effective in creating a dark and sinister ambient mood. In true Delerium style, half-heard voices echo across the speakers and there is the ocassional startling abrupt change in music so you're not lulled into only half-listening. I've found my reaction to Stone Tower different to that of other Delerium albums I have; while albums like Semantic Spaces and Karma are soothing and at times relaxing, Stone Tower is not, somewhat like the beginning of Spheres I, because there's an underlying sense of anxiety. Overall, it's not a great album to relax to, but it is fun, especially if you happen to be in a somewhat darker mood. Recommended for those who are already Delerium fans.

Lost Passion, Aftermath, Delerium, January 23, 2000
This review is from: Stone Tower (Audio CD)
In true "early" Delerium (Euphoric, Syrophrenikan, Stone Tower, Spiritual Archives) "Stone Tower" deals with the subjects of death, and the darker sides of hummanity. Leeb and Fulber never dissapointed me with one of there albums. In tower, like other early Delerium, you feel a common theme, or "story" going on while you listen. In this one, I interpret it as a story of grief and loss (as hinted by the first track) but it is probably deeper than that. Standout tracks are "Lost Passion" "Stone Tower" "Aftermath" "Tundra" and the VERY disturbing (its very VERY creepy) "Spirit."

Solid Early Delerium, May 13, 2001
This review is from: Stone Tower (Audio CD)
This is yet another of the series of incredible albums which poured forth from the synthesizers of Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber from 1987-1992 (one per year) as Delerium in the "early Delerium" period--as defined by yours truly. This disc is pretty average for early Delerium, but considering that early Delerium is superior by several orders of magnitude to the crap passing for music on the radio these days, "average" becomes a compliment. Stone Tower is also somewhat less scary than other Early Delerium releases, not nearly as sinister as Morpheus or Spiritual Archives. I recommend "Bleeding", with its glorious sound cascades and stigmata references, the bleak landscape of "Tundra", and the disturbing Darth Vader goes Scuba diving sound of "Spirit." "Aftermath" gets honorable mention for being a darn good song upstaged by a track of the same name on Spiritual Archives.
