About the Author

Sisters, Vickie Britton and Loretta Jackson, have co-authored over thirty novels. Among them are Devil's Game, Arctic Legacy and The Curse of Senmut, the first book in the eight book Ardis Cole Mystery Series. They often travel to exotic locations, lately to Russia, China and Peru, to research settings for their novels. They are drawn to the western United States - Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. Their love for the unique flavour and history of the Old West provides a background for many of their novels. Vickie lives in Hutchinson, Kansas with her husband Roger. They have one son, Ed. Vickie has a degree in British Literature and has taken many courses in criminal justice, forensics and police science. Loretta Jackson resides in Junction City, Kansas, where she manages real estate and writes full time. A former teacher, she taught high school English and Creative Writing in South Dakota.

This was a cool book. I had heard of Tom Horn but never knew he was a real person or what he did before reading this. Vickie Britton and Loretta Jackson educate while keeping up the suspense right from the start. I've been to Wyoming and their descriptions were spot on. I could see the looming Rockies in the distance and modern day ranchers at work. Kate Jepp, standing in the real sheriff, is a true heroine fighting against office sexism while trying to solve a murder that lot of people don't seem to want to get solved. I thought I knew who the murderer was, but I really didn't see the end coming. It's surprise reminded me of a Ruth Rendell: logical but I was completely fooled. A good modern day police western.
