I just moved into my one bedroom apartment and needed a bike storage rack for my two bikes. This bike storage rack is great because I can stack two bikes onto one rack....it is a space saver considering I live in a apartment in the city (not a lot of space). The bikes even look cool! The bike storage rack is set up in the corner of the living room...doesn't take up much space at all, easy to assemble, and like I said, it looks super cool! It will even look good in a garage and will help you organize your bike storage problems. I have my road bike and a hybrid bike on the rack right now and it holds the bikes very well.

FYI! If you look at the picture how the bikes are places, it will NOT look like that. The front wheels when hung on the rack are not straight like the picture....so you'll take up a little more space since the wheels turns out/in. Meaning the bike storage rack won't be THAT close to the wall...you will have to move the rack out further from the wall a little unless you have a wheel handle lock for your bike :)

Worked Great! The intent of the design is to hang bikes horizontally, however, I hung my bikes vertically (one on each side of the pole) and it worked just fine. It works either way. No complaints here!

I live in DC in a 500 sf condo. I need every inch of space possible; being a cyclist, with no place to store my nice bikes, is a definite problem. This bike pole storage thing is the perfect solution. It's surprisingly sturdy. It didn't come with directions, but was so easy to put together I didn't need them! I have two bikes on my rack currently; a steel-framed Jamis cyclocross (about 20 pounds) and a Trek road bike (about 12 pounds). The Jamis bike is a steel framed bike (very heavy!). Both bikes are somewhat small (44 cm), but the pole could easily fit two large bicycles. It took me a few tries to get the adjustments right, and I would definitely recommend putting your "every day" bike on the lower arm. However, this is great because it requires no drilling, is easy to set up, and takes up virtually no space! I was very happy to have my bedroom back once my bikes were safely secured on this rack.

I own three Q-Rak's, the first one was purchased locally, and slightly used, from a local bike shop. I was impressed with the design, so when I found them on Amazon, I bought two more. The two from Amazon were almost identical, the primary difference being that the company has changed the material of the clamp which tightens around the chrome pole to a dense black plastic, which on my older locally purchased unit was made of black painted metal.

On the two newer Q-Rak's, I also experienced the clamps sliding down the pole when a bicycle was placed on the padded hooks...not violently, but it was clear that the coefficient of friction between the plastic jaws of the clamp and the chrome pole was not sufficient.

What I did was cut a section out of an old bicycle inner tube about 1.5 inches long, then make one more cut down the length of that piece so it would wrap around the pole, inside the jaws of the clamp. Problem solved, and the clamp doesn't even have to be tightened nearly so much to grip the pole tightly. The clamp bites into the rubber inner tube, and the inner tube has a very good grip on the chrome pole, so the bike isn't sliding down. With the inner tube modification applied, the upper clamp will support the heaviest bicycle I own, a 1988 mountain bike with a very tall (24") frame made of oversized steel tubing, and equipped with fenders, pump and tool bag. This bicycle weighs 33.5 lbs on my digital bathroom scales. I think that the Q-Rak would now possibly support even a motorized bicycle (not that I own one).

Despite all the great reviews for this product, I'm very disappointed with the design. The hangers "fasten" to the center pole using an adjustable clamp made of plastic. Your bike is being kept in the air by the friction between the plastic clamp tightening around the slippery metal pole. If you own a heavier bike, such as most mountain bikes, you will find your bike sliding/twisting down the column no matter how tight you make the clamp, since there is nothing locking the clamp to the pole.

Also, the product description fails to mention the maximum weight limit for the rack, which is 30lbs for the upper hanger and 45lbs for the lower hanger. Personally, I would rate the weights at about 20lbs/35lbs. Beware of this product if your bike has any weight to it.

I am not sure exactly how much my mountain bike weighs, but it is reasonably light. No matter how tight I made the top rack, it slide down. Very frustrating- it may
work if you have feather weight bike!

i bought this item to see if it would stand up to the use. so far it has. but saddly it is no where near as good as the topeak model. it isn't as sturdy, or as secure. it feels very loose and almost unsafe.
BUT. it does hold the weight, nothing has fallen or slipped, and it continues to do the job that i got it for. to hold 2 bikes. thats all.
and it was about $70 less than the topeak model.
