Book Description

August 25, 2009
Stones of the New Consciousness begins with a new approach to meditation with stones, and to the possibility of conscious relationship with the spiritual beings who express themselves in our world as crystals and minerals. This beautifully designed book examines the most important stones that help accelerate and enhance human evolution. Each entry is illustrated with color photos of exceptional examples. The stones include Moldavite, the extraterrestrial amorphous crystal; Nuummite, the oldest gemstone on Earth; and Circle Stones, the highly energetic Flint found in crop circle formations. Other featured rarities include Nirvana Quartz from the Himalayas and high-vibrational Natrolite from the emerald mines of Russia.

Author Robert Simmons includes historical and mythological references for each stone, positing that the fabled Stone of the Holy Grail and the Philosopher’s Stone of the alchemists may have physical counterparts among the materials discussed. Simmons presents practices for deepening one’s awareness of the stones’ gifts—from expanding one’s consciousness, to healing, to fulfilling one’s personal and collective destiny. While emphasizing direct contact with stones, the book also explores crystal energy tools, energy environments, and applications such as stone elixirs and essences that can aid anyone on a spiritual path.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The internal fire of Robert Simmons warms this writing—or, I should say, fires it up, so that you can see your life in a new light and feel a new kind of love ignited. . . . It contains perhaps the deepest mysteries of the Earth—and of the Cosmos. . . . The purpose of this writing is to invite us into a process without end–a new way of living."
—Robert Sardello, PhD, author of Love and the Soul

"In the crucial quest to restore accord between the human world and the living world which surrounds us, the reverent recognition of trans-human intelligence is our only chance. We have forgotten the indigenous wisdom that tells us ‘all created things are People.’ Stepping out of this prevailing amnesia, Robert Simmons takes us deep into a living rapport and relation with the ‘Stone People.’ This book is a gift to all who stand ready to enter the dance of participation, the never-ending co-creation of all that is."
—Daniel Deardorff, author of The Other Within: The Genius of Deformity in Myth, Culture and Psyche

"Finally, a book that ventures deep into the true realm of human and mineral relationship! Robert has eloquently revealed the larger picture of human evolution and the role of minerals in the shift of Gaia at this time, as well as honestly detailing the journey to deep intimacy with our mineral teachers."
—Naisha Ahsian, coauthor of The Book of Stones and creator of The Crystal Ally Cards

Stones of the New Consciousness begins to spelunk the solidity of stones, taking us to the edge of consciousness and matter, and into the realm of co-creative evolution, fields of heart-intelligence, the crystalline nature of humans, the Soul of the world, myths and legends, shamanism, poets and prophets, and myriad ways that we can wrap our intelligence around the parallels and possibilities that working with stones offers… It is not light reading; it is, however, authoritatively original and inspiring, and weaves a fascinating tapestry of science and spirit that itself exemplifies the new consciousness the author strives to make more understandable and accessible… This book is going on my top shelf!”

Stones In Question December 6, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although the format of the book is respectable (with the exception of the small text font size), Simmons' book left me with questions that do not agree with all of the first four reviewers.

I don't raise question to the physical book itself and its textual commentary but to a perceived undercurrent motive intended for the self-promotion of Heaven and Earth LLC catalog of over-priced crystals.

Ascension-assisting stones should with full intention be offered free to all but if that is not extended then they should be priced at a level accessible to the entire community that journeys towards an ascending existence. The only thing that I concede is priced reasonably by Simmons' is this book itself. I bought it for $16 which, even though I don't support its overall perspective, was a fair pricing. I suspect the book is sold at cost to guide the reader to the catalog......just my take.

I struggle with Simmons' lists of stones that are classified as "new". I still remain undecided as to their actual effectiveness and energetic property field. I do not feel comfortable supporting his position on his "new" stones simply because he positions them as beneficial. More interaction with them is needed to understand the level of their effectiveness and their energies.

For those considering this book-

An overview of the chapters are:

-A New Crystal Vision
-The New Consciousness & the Soul of the World
-What's Going on Here?
-The Liquid Crystal Body Matrix
-The Body of Light & The Great Crystal Sun
-Crystal Meditations
-Healing with the Stones
-Waters of Life: Crystal Waters and Elixirs
-Crystal Tools & Jewelry
-The Tale of the Azez
-Co-Creation & Transfiguration

I don't normally cast this slant on my reviews but I want to encourage the reader to continue considering other books on stones and to not feel compelled to overspend when purchasing Gaia's gifts of crystals that continue to assist us at just the time we are in need of them most.

Gaia's stones and crystals are gifts of consciousness coming to assist us and if anyone in the business of selling the stones is fully holding a consciousness field of higher good then why should the pricings exclude so many in need of them?

I end by offering two books that despite all that I have read, still remain at the front of my shelves and to which I consistently refer...

Two alternative reading suggestions are Judy Hall's "Crystal Bible" and Melody's "Love is in the Earth".

Namaste and Inlakesh.
Reclaim the fullness of your sacredness.

This is a great book! It is a nice sized book (about 300 pages and something like 7 x 10" in size) and loaded with color photos of the stones. It begins with a 9-page intro by Robert Sardello, Co-Director of the School of Spiritual Psychology in North Carolina. The first half of the book (119 pages) is wisdom from Robert Simmons about various practices with stones based on his lifetime of working with them and consciously tuning into their energies. It provides a great deal of information including wearing stones, meditation practices to help you align with the energies of the stones, shamanic journeying, receiving messages, body layouts with stones, healing grids with stones, crystal acupuncture, etc.

The 2nd half is about stones associated with New Age consciousness (pages 120 - 278) and is about the qualities and properties of each stone and how they work to heal or enhance your abilities. If you have "The Book of Stones" by Simmons and Ahsian, most of the stones in the new book are in "The Book of Stones" so don't think this is all new stones; however, there is a great deal of detail on each stone. There are a few stones that were not in the older book though. Conversely, there are a lot of stones in the old book that are not in the new book. The idea of the new book is to provide detailed "how to" information and to list the primary hot New Age stones (such as Nuummite, Moldavite, Azeztulite, etc.). If you are familiar with the prior book, you know that Simmons is particularly interested in Moldavite and Azeztulite. I can confirm that my personal experiences with Moldavite have been most interesting. Initially, and as weird as this sounds, I found its energy to be so intense that I could not wear it for extended periods of time for several months.

In an early part of the book, Simmons states, "We meet the world through our senses and our imagination." He mentions that stones help us to develop our capacity of attention. I guess you could say that this is a capacity to bring attention to the subtleties of the energetic movement within our bodies as well as facilitate our heart-centered connection with Spirit. Although I used to laugh at things like this, I have found very special properties in the stones I encounter. (Guess I wasn't as smart as I once thought I was.) Tuning into stones is tuning into a big piece of the ever-fascinating world of nature and when you are blessed enough to feel the energies within them, it opens up the equivalent of a wondrous world of play for your inner child. And in absorbing those energies, you may share them with others as friends did with me.

Anyway, back to the first part of this book--Simmons explains the crystal nature of humans, stating that we are crystalline both through the liquid crystal nature of our tissues and cell structures and in the crystal molecule of our DNA. (That reminds me-I was at a dinosaur museum in Alberta Canada and saw a large cut-open dinosaur bone and guess what was inside? CRYSTALS). Simmons also talks about Sophia, the Great Central Sun, the New Consciousness, the Light Body, and Heart Intelligence. He provides a bunch of meditations on related topics, including meeting stone spirits, inter-dimensional travel, shamanic journeying, sleeping and dreaming, and heart-centered ascension. He provides stone layouts and lists which stones to use for various outcomes (e.g. emotional healing, manifestation, angelic attunement, etc.). He provides info on making crystal waters and stone elixirs. He explains crystal/stone jewelry, pendants and combo pendants, wands, platonic solids, meditation pyramids. Simmons also provides 10 pages on the Azez and Azeztulite, one of his most favorite stones.

This is a really nice book to have if you are being spiritually pulled into the New Age Consciousness. It will fuel your internal fire. Won't you please let your inner child come out and play?

Peace and love to you on your path forward.

Moving in a new direction October 22, 2009
Format:Paperback
I have been reading and collecting books on the spiritual aspects of the mineral kingdom for quite some time, and few really encompass the holistic vision and evolutionary pretense for which this book aims. Robert Simmons obviously undertook a vast amount of research in order to provide for us a new text for co-creating with crystals and opening to our spiritual potential.

Unlike other texts, this is not a "such-and-such-stone-heals-this-condition" kind of book. It is a book that recounts personal experience with sixty-two varieties of gem materials useful for expanding our spiritual potential as human beings and transforming the world around us. Simmons recounts his personal meditations with the stones, such that readers may be able to experience them, and also provides basic mineralogical descriptions, the background/history/folklore behind each stone present, and it's potential as a stone for attuning us to higher levels. Every entry is accompanied by a quick-reference of its qualities, elemental associations, more than one photo of each stone, and a personal message directly from that particular crystalline being (reminiscent of Virtue and Lukomski's book or those by the Twintreess).

The preparatory chapters leading to the compendium of stones are likely worth the price of the book alone. Simmons dissects the myths and legends surrounding stones in order to interpret them in a manner relevant to our time. He provides insight into the crystalline nature of biological systems and how they may interact with the mineral kingdom, and he also provides information about how to apply crystals within different methodologies, from creating crystal elixirs, to wearing jewelry and working with energy tools and grids.

I'd love to give this book five stars; it is exquisitely photographed and is a great companion to either (or both) editions of the Book of Stones. However, there are a few drawbacks. Many of the energy tools, jewelry pieces, and crystal grids are very elaborate and not very well explained. This makes it difficult to recreate them on one's own. The reader is often referred to seek further information, and thus consider purchasing, these tools directly from the author's company. The grids are beautiful and complex to look at, but with relatively small illustrations and only a brief list of the components, it is likely a challenge to recreate them precisely. Also, of the more than sixty stones included therein, more than one quarter of them are names given to them by Heaven and Earth (the name of the author's business), or are trade names that do NOT reflect the composition, origin, or structure of the mineral truthfully.

One example is the lengthy entry on Azeztulite, a spiritual name reflecting special spiritual properties applied to otherwise common quartz. Since the advent of its discovery, there are multiple varieties of Azeztulite available, all of it sourced ultimately from Heaven and Earth Distributing for a frequently exorbitant price. Simmons even goes so far as to suggest that since more quartz, even the common igneous and metamorphic rocks presented in this book as rare gems, is elevating its frequency to become Azeztulite it might be possible that one day ALL quartz may do so. If this is the case, then what necessitates a special name and high cost? As a mineralogist, this concept of renaming common materials can be upsetting, especially when taken within the context of quartz being among the most common of all materials in the Earth's crust.

Aside from the challenges presented in this text, it is a beautiful and inspiring work. I found myself surprised by some of the minerals chosen from this work. Many old classics to collectors of minerals are really coming into their own within spiritual contexts now. There are plenty of newer additions to our toolkits coming to light as well, showing us that the Earth Mother is looking out for us.
