great LP!!!!!,
By Das (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stones Throw 101 (CD + DVD) (Audio CD)
probably like many heads, I first decided to check Stones Throw 101 b/c of MF Doom's affiliation with them (as a member of Madvillain with Madlib - an amazing LP as well). I was surprised and impressed with the diversity of this label as they are not only true to hip hop's essence and origins, but they have an amazing taste in music when it comes to funk, groove and eclectic music. While the DVD gives you a good understanding where the label members are coming from, the mix cd is so diverse it'll capture the attention of headz and non-believers alike. It played at my New Years Eve party and I had so many people asking me who's record this was even though most of the people asking don;t listen to hip hop. Highly reccomended to those with open-minded musical tastes as it won't disappoint (i was hungry for more and copped Peanut Butter Wolf's "Jukebox 45's" cd to get more of that ill flavour.
