I recently went on a hunt with a Harris HBRM bipod - that is the only other experience I have had with a bipod. When I purchased the Stoney Point I was slightly skeptical of how it would hold up being attached to a large caliber gun (I shoot a .338 RCM) - it looks a little bit flimsy in the pictures. However, having packed my gun with the bipod a few miles and shooting about twenty or so rounds through it so far I don't think I will regret this purchase. The bipod requires you to remove the forward swivel post and in my case I had to get a longer screw to reach through the extra bipod thickness into the stock. It locks up against the gun by pulling the swivel assembly straight out then pivoting up and locking back in place. When the pod is down and open the gun can lean left or right, pivot up and down, and rotate left and right, this allows to set the bipod on uneven ground and still maintain a vertical shooting position. The legs also extend in increments.
I still have to test it on a real hunt, but so far I am quite pleased with it.

These things are absolute junk. Whoever manufactured these had to be stoned to create something so flawed. Mine broke the first time I attempted to use it and I wasn't even shooting. I just tried attach it to the mount. It just fell apart where the ball swivel is encased. I did not buy it here. I actually paid $68.99 at Midway USA which makes me feel pretty foolish especially given further bad experiences with Midway's return policies I also bought some Ruger Mini 14 40 round mags which do not work in the Mini but they are great for carrying around ammo. My mistake with both products from Midway was not attempting to use/install right away and by the time their pathetic return policy was over. All this actually happened in February 10, 2010 before I knew much of anything about Amazon. All and all Midway fleeced me for close to $120.00 including tax. Never again ! What really pisses me off at myself is I didn't do the research I should have and paid as much for this Stoney point junk as I would have for a Harris or Caldwell product. I remember at the time I settled for this because it "swiveled" which I thought I wanted. MY mistake ! That is exactly the point it malfunctioned. Amazon needs to add a ZERO rating. This would get it.

Looks great mounted to my rifle and would have been nice to use......unfortunately somewhere between the first and fourth round fired from my 30-06 one of the pins that locks the individual legs in place fell out. After looking at the design they used some sort of adhesive or epoxy to hold these pins in place. Maybe would do ok with a .22 cal rifle but any hunting round will compromise the integrity. One time use? Oh well I like fixing things anyways. Looks like I will be tapping the holes and replacing the pins with screws. That's how this should have been designed. Nothing on a firearm is glued on. Maybe Stoney point should consider this if they happen to redesign this bipod. Other than that allowed me to place 4 rounds right on top of another at 300 yards. Just doesn't snap back into the locked position for now. Next outing hardware store.
