This is a great learning tool for people with back problems. I have herniated discs in both my neck and lower back from an accident. I had difficulty walking and moving my neck. After 11 months of specialists trying different things from drugs, P.T. to steriod injections, I picked up this tape...I had just started seeing a neurologist, who reviewed the exercises and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Video Not for Everyone

This is a great learning tool for people with back problems. I have herniated discs in both my neck and lower back from an accident. I had difficulty walking and moving my neck. After 11 months of specialists trying different things from drugs, P.T. to steriod injections, I picked up this tape...I had just started seeing a neurologist, who reviewed the exercises and approved them...suggesting I start SLOWLY and also suggesting that I enroll in a water aerobics class. I can now do things I used to do, that I couldn't even think about doing after the accident. Note: it is very important that you do the exercises in the order given on the tape...I found that it was a progressive type exercise/strengthening program; and, if I did it in a different order, I did seem to hurt more afterwards. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate this (along with H2O aerobics) which helped me deal with my injuries. Also note: it won't give you instant relief...I did the program along with H2O aerobics for 2 years...before I could get back to a somewhat "normal lifestyle" I did see improvement little by little throughout that time...but, there is NO "quick fix". When you have a back injury, it's up to you to strengthen the muscles to support the spine and discs. It's not a cure....but, doing the exercises does help strengthen the muscles around the discs which provides some pain relief and gives you more mobility. This tape also includes a section about how to do everyday tasks differently, to prevent "flare ups." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Virtual immediate relief from lower back pain ., March 9, 1999
By A Customer
I had lower back surgery 5 years ago (herniated disc) with ensuing stiffness and recent shooting pain. In two sessions following Dr. Lamberti's excercise routine my back feels better than it has in years. The shooting pain is gone as is most of the stiffness. I also endorse the section of the video identifying the everyday movements that create back problems and how to avoid them. I strongly recommend this video to back pain sufferers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Video Not for Everyone, January 16, 2000
By A Customer
I bought this video after rupturing a disc in my lower back. I was unable to do any of the exercises, as they caused me further discomfort. I would not recommend this video to anyone who has moderate to severe back pain because the exercises are too advanced for a person in this condition. However, if you are almost recovered from a back problem, or are only experiencing mild back pain, this video will teach you exercises to help improve your muscle strength. It also offers some very simplistic "how-to's" for daily activities such as bending, loading the dishwasher, etc., in a way that will not reinjure your back. These tips are really common sense ideas that will not greatly benefit anyone who is already living with back pain. Finally, I was disappointed by the video quality--it looks as if it were filmed by a low-end home video camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars stop back pain now, February 28, 2005
This review is from: Stop Back Pain Now! (DVD)
Excellent video, rented it and will now buy it. I hadrheumatoid arthritis for over 18 years and had over 5 surgeries including L5 laminectomy in 94 and then fusion in 2001,herniated neck and was on traction for 1 month because of back injury on L2 back in 85. The excercises are gentle and makes you feel relaxed. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A medical lecture that wasn't boring!, January 6, 2006
This review is from: Stop Back Pain Now! (DVD)
I'm a massage therapist & rented this to learn more & also for my mother who has a car accident in the past.
The recommendations for getting in/out of the car, picking things up, bending down, loading the diswasher, pilllow/sleeping use, getting ready in the morning when using using the mirror, using the computer, phone, grabbing things, back supports & slings, etc., was great. They used great actors & props to show the incorrect & correct ways.
The exercises & stretches were very basic, though some may be advanced. You should always listen to your body, if it hurts, see if you can modify it, if it still hurts, don't do it & try other stretches & exercises.
The point of this DVD is that it's the little things that make chronic neck & backaches hurt, not that one-time bend.
The exercises & stretches is to remind people that it's because your back is WEAK that it hurts, not from overuse, just incorrect use. You will never get better if you never stretch or exercise daily with careful awareness of what you are doing, not going too far & knowing different days you will be able to go more advanced & other days you will not be able to do as well as you had & that's ok.
Of course, for anyone with an injury from a car accident, your pain is not chronic, but it can get better with stretching & exercising. There are a lot more ways to stretch then what was shown here, I wish there were more.
I was surprised she showed how to do crunches. Making the abs stronger is important, but there are better ways to strengthen your abs without using your neck like that.
After the exercises, there is even a lengthy meditation/stress reduction tutorial.
I have never had a backache for more then a few hours or a day in which case I immediately stretch, but then again, I have been doing yoga for many years.
I agree this DVD reminded me of old VHS lectures in it's style, but it was clear & does have the option of 5.1 dolby.

5.0 out of 5 stars stop back pain now, January 11, 2006
This review is from: Stop Back Pain Now! (DVD)
I checked this out at the library and the second time that I did the exercises I felt a difference, as though the coffee was perculating again. Stiffness and pain in my joints have become less. At first I wasn't able to do some of the exercises, but now I have much more mobility. I ordered this on DVD, one for my daughter and one for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Be careful if you have had surgery, November 13, 2005

This review is from: Stop Back Pain Now! (DVD)
I bought this DVD based on the review from the person who claimed to have had miracles after 5 back surgeries and being in traction. My word .. if that does not inpsire you, what would? Sadly, I followed the recommendations to do the exercises daily for 4 - 6 weeks, and two weeks into it, the numbness in my leg that had resulted from a herniated disk and botched physiotherapy has gotten really bad. Clearly, something I did in the exercise routine has exacerbated it. I would be very careful especially if you have had surgery or a herniation. This DVD may be good for people who are sedentary but generally healthy and want to strengthen their abs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Got my money worth!, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Stop Back Pain Now! (DVD)
I bought this video because I started suffering from lower back pain and within three weeks of doing it at least five times a week my pain has diminished considerably. Now I feel it more like an ache. I will continue to do this to strengthen my back. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Exercise together with streching length is about 20 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sequence of Back Strengthening Exercises, December 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stop Back Pain Now! (DVD)
Great sequence of exercises...they really helped my back. I do them daily and they strengthened my core area. It's worth it.

But, I do agree that if you have a really bad back you should talk to your doctor and have him or her review the sequence before using it. As others noted, it may work for some and may not for others.

Worked for me...I feel blessed.
