great starting point,
By
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
If you were wondering what to do, where to start, how to help, this is it! Like the other reviews state, this is a great, concise book that provides a starting point. Not very long, but a lot of information. I have not been very active, other than VOTING (and that is more active than some citizens!), but this shows how you can do MORE. It lists a variety of ways to become involved in the political process, so if you are a beginner, like me, you could start with a little ...... or you could do everything! The other thing that is nice is that he tells you where to go for more information and background. Great job, Mike!
after reading the rude comment of Feb 2005 - I wanted to add a little more: Yes, this was a good book, and yes, they did not "STOP BUSH" but don't be a sore winner. That makes the republicans look like losers. What I am glad about is that this book made people more aware and helped to get them involved with the process - hooray. Although they did not succeed in the election, hopefully, some people will be more active in the next election. I don't want to put people down because they are democrats or republicans - this country is great because we are supposedly open to democratic debate and people have the right to vote and should use that right responsibly - and I think Mike tried to show readers how to be educated and involved. What will the next book be titled?

SECOND EDITION WORTHY READ,
By Seth (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
I have a copy of the second and find it very useful. The book contains a plethora of action ideas and resources to use. All of the contacts are there to take action with the Kerry Campaign and the various ways you can volunteer for Kerry, along with ways to disrupt the Bush Campaign, and influence the Conservatie media. What I found most satisfying was the 70 companies to boycott who support Republicans. No more buying at Wal-Mart or eating at Donkin Donuts for me. I certainly recommend this for anyone looking to take action and help bring about regime change in November.

Excellent Actions,
By Jack (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
First, the book is more like four stars, but if you're a progressive, you'll know that Republicans go around to all the liberal books giving them one star ratings, anyone giving a book about defeating Bush a one star rating has revealed their true colors. (They've brought 'Dude, Where's My Country' down to 3.5 stars!, that's a five star book!) The book is great at providing background information and knowledge for all of us looking to take action. Whehter it's protesting bush, canvassing neighborhoods, evaluating how we spend our money, or influencing the media. If you're looking for a good action to take, it's probobly there. The only drawback is that you want a little more, but of course as another review put it, the book would cost more and be much longer. It works very well as a handbook and motivational tool. I recomend it espcially to those who have never been active during a presidential campaign.

Good Outline,
By Sharon White (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush In 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
Stop Bush does a good job at providing the reader with an outline of things to do in the election to defeat Bush. In some cases it goes beyond an outline and provides more detail, resources, and important ideas. On the whole, it is a good start for someone looking to get active in the campaign. Here is what you'll get in the book.Introduction: Info. on why the author dislikes bush, why bush should lose, what it means if bush is re-elected. Education: Focus on the importance of swing states, making sure we have paper ballots, not being a radical activist, and learing bush's record and the campaign issues. Organization: How to organize and the impotance of doing so. Bush Campaign: How to protest the Bush campaign, get involved during the republican convention, and contacting the campaign. Democratic Campaign: Focusing on the major volunteer actions like fundraising, canvassing, registering voters, educating voters, and working with speical interest groups like www.moveon.org and www.AmericaVotes.org Media Activism: How to influence the media with phone calls, letters to editors, op-eds, supporting Alternative media, taking out ads, etc. Student Activism: getting more students involved and reaching out to them on campus. Economic Activism: Reducing our consumption before election time to hurt the economy and give the election to Kerry. Also boycotting Companies that donate to Bush and Co. Bush's Record: Focus on the horrible four years we've all had to endure. Parting Thoughts: It doesn't end with Bush, Stay involved no matter what happens in November. We have a long fight ahead.

Bush Will Lose,
By Jason S. (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
Bush will lose, and this book is one instrument to get us there. By the reaction of the one-star Republicans reviewers, it is clear that this book scares them and they are panicing, as they should be. "Stop Bush in 2004" is a thoughtful action guide for of us who believe in truth, justice, and democracy. It is excellent for a first time activist, pretty good if you're already a pro. Do I recommend it? Yes. And I recommend telling others.

Better than Complaining,
By Seth (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
A call to action which I hope all Americans will hear. The reviewer who said it was 'hateful' obvivously didn't read it. The book is about taking action and doing more than complaining and being hateful, so they must be a Republican stooge. It would be helpful if it were edited better, but the information you need is still there so you can get involved with the Kerry Campaign or your local Kerry meetup. However, it was written before Kerry became the nominee so some of the information is unnecssary now. I'm surprised to think someone would think advertising and op-ed pieces are 'grandiose' schemes. Should we sit back and let the republicans get all the media and take out all the anti-kerry ads? As for bugging the president or anyone for that matter, there is not one word, it makes me wonder what people are reading. By no means is the book perfect, many parts could be expanded and I hope the author will put out another edition before the election, but it serves it's purpose to inform the average american as to what they can do to stop the warrior king.

Stop Bush and Davie's Bushwhacked both must-read books,
By John Hanson (Holland, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
Stop Bush in 2004 contains a lot of very good reasons why Dubya should not be re-elected - or in his case redefeated - as president. It's clear that Bush is reckless with the lives of American military and with tax dollars to wage a war on Iraq, a nation that never presented any 'clear and immediate threat' and did not have any WMD.A great companion book to Stop Bush has to be Bushwhacked by Michael B. Davie (ISBN: 0973195614) as this book examines Bush from an outsider's perspective, lending a Canadian take on an American president who takes a unilateral and isolationist, unstatesmanlike approach to politics, demanding much of friendly nations and giving little or nothing in return. America needs a wake-up call and Stop Bush and Bushwhacked both deliver.

More than a diatribe - a practical guide,
By DJ ProFusion - WorldFusionRadio.com "DJ ProFu... (Evanston, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop Bush in 2004: How Every Citizen Can Help (Paperback)
Stopping the reactionary extremist junta of Dubya & Co. is the top priority for all patriotic Americans in 2004. This is not a guide on hating Dubya, it is more important a book than that. Dobbins has done his country a service in providing a marvelous primer on how an American can become active in politics and effect Regime Change here at home. It's practical sound advice. The very rich, the very bigoted, and the very ignorant will support Dubya. The rest of us can help change this country for the better. Dobbins provides some excellent ways you can empower yourself and change your life for the better by gettign active in yoru community and your country.
