5.0 out of 5 stars Spitalfield doesn't disappoint (me, at least.)
This album is a strong and worthy sequel to "Remember ...". It's mellifluous, a good amount catchy, and partially insightful! Spitalfield has matured, as it seems every band must, including the obligatory social commentary. (Though it's not all banal, thankfully. "Simple Minds, Simple Lives" is exemplary.)

The best feature of this CD, as was of their first...

1.0 out of 5 stars What Happened??
I'm sorry. Remember Right Now was a really good CD that caught my attention the first time I heard it. This CD has no emotion in it whatsoever, it sounds like they wrote this album because they needed to put something out and they just didn't have any time to develop any good songs. They should really take their own advice and stop doing bad things.

Spitalfield has matured, as it seems every band must, including the obligatory social commentary. (Though it's not all banal, thankfully. "Simple Minds, Simple Lives" is exemplary.)

The best feature of this CD, as was of their first major release: the consistency of quality through the length of the disc. The better songs are distributed well on the album, and the rest aren't filler. A full CD, no tracks need to be skipped. I enjoy this disc from beginning to end.

"Building A Better City...", "Van Buren", and "What Were You Thinking?" remind me of their previous album, though feel fresh and inviting. Perhaps I'm the only reviewer to feel that the style and quality of this release is similar to their previous. I've enjoyed their follow-up and think that those disappointed among my fellow reviewers may find a second or third listen very rewarding.

A worthy replacement for the worn out copies of "Remember ..."

5.0 out of 5 stars ha, January 29, 2006
This review is from: Stop Doing Bad Things (Audio CD)
I usually don't write reviews but I was reading some of the ones for this cd, and omg... it was given like -no- credit at all... anyways, Remember Right Now was sooo good, and i was in love with it for the longest time. Spitalfield is so unique its not even right. So I buy their new cd, and it kicks the old ones ass. I'm sorry, but it does. I still rock out to Remember... but Spitalfield has really gotten so much better musically in this cd. I mean seriously, anybody who reviews this cd and says "omg no it sucks! stick with remember right now!" is very narrow-minded and shallow. Sure they changed styles a bit, but its for the better. So if you're thinking of buying this, then you should. I promise you won't regret if you have any type of good music taste at all.

Before you read any further, I like to note that if you're a fan of spitalfield's older stuff, you may find yourself upset with this newest release. I, however, fell in love Stop Doing Bad Things and have no beef with the style change. Here's what I thought of each song:

So, I heard you joined a convent...5/5
Texas with a $ sign...4.5/5
Gold Dust...5/5
What were you thinking...5/5
Tampa Bum Blues...3.5/5
Restraining order blues...5/5
The furure is now...4/5
Van Buren...5/5
From the desk of B. Larson...5/5
Building a better city...3/5
Simple minds...4/5

Overall, this is a great record, and produced by Ed Rose means you simply can't go wrong. Also check out: Always leave the ground by: This day and Age

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight-ahead rock with a softer, melodic sound., June 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Stop Doing Bad Things (Audio CD)
First off, this retard below me must have no idea what memorable vocals are. Not only does Spitalfield's lead singer stand out amoung the rest, falling somewhere in between the high-pitched Jordan Pundik's and monotone derick dryman's, he also hooks you in at first listen. Its soothing and melodic, but not whiney or overdramatic like so many others. This is straight up alternative rock too, not emo or emocore or whatever the f*ck you posers call it (you've already ruined jimmy eat would with that genre comparison, so just give it a rest already). Not only is the vocalist awesome, but so is the guitarist. Hints of melodic metal echo thru each song, and on some, even lead most of the way through. My favorites would have to be "gold dust" (the one printed twice) and "Simple minds" (the closer), but they're all worth a listen or two (or three). Its a shame these guys aren't flooding the airwaves instead of Green Day or Avril lavine (poser pop-punk crap), cuz if anyone deserves the fame, they do. Also check out "remember right now", which is a bit softer but still great.

This cd is defintely no remember right now. Even though it is so diferent it is still a great cd. I dont think it is a result of not enough effort but a sign of the band matureing musically. And the thing about numbers 3 and 4 being the same, it was on purpose, it was part of the contest "13 bad days" leading up to the release of the cd. For the details check out the victory records website.

I loved Remember Right Now and and I love this one too, but they are two entirely different beasts. When you first listen to RRN it practically attacks you, it has some of the most infectuous, almost tangible hooks that I have ever heard. You can't help but sing it all the time, BUT, it becomes redundant and the persistent chorus-crooning doesn't really allow for many repeat listens. Like The Shins but with a punk masking. SDBT is really really great once you get used to it, at first, I wanted a replicant of RRN but this really is good. The guitars are a lot different and a lot more driving. The lyrics are jsut as good and the fantastic crooning is back wiht vehemence!!

Just listen to it over and over and you will realize that it is a lot more powerful and dynamic than Remember Right Now and it is also lends itself to repeat listens much better than RRN could because of the repeating choruses.

5.0 out of 5 stars give it a few listens before passing judgement, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Stop Doing Bad Things (Audio CD)
ok, so along with most other people writing the reviews, i was upset that this didn't have the "Remember Right Now" sound and feel, and i hated the new songs that i heard on purevolume at first, but, i decided to pick up the cd anyway, and i've listened to it a few times now, and the songs are actually really good, and they stick in my head, i agree, they COULD have made a better cd, but, i'm 100% happy with this purchase, i just hope they get a little more pop back in the sound on the next album, if you liked remember right now, or like fall out boy... check this band out on purevolume and myspace, My Former Self

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Album, March 28, 2005
This review is from: Stop Doing Bad Things (Audio CD)
Tracks 3 and 4 are the same on purpose. It was a contest they were having where the first 200 people who noticed the "final bad thing" could win a free t shirt and dvd. Check out their website to see for yourself. But if you'll notice there's an untitled track number 12, so just delete track number 4 and rename. Anyhow,I just got it and I like what I hear, catchy, just like Spitalfield would be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Remember Right Now, but still good, March 28, 2005

The album is great, regardless of what some of these reviews say. Spitalfield is incredible instrumentally, and anything they pump out will prove that. The only problem that I found, as I'm sure many fans of the band will be annoyed with is the change in vocals from the last album to this one. There are parts when those soft vocals are present like in tracks 3 (and 4) and 7, but with most of the singing it's like they are trying to impersonate the rest of the bands out there. The vocals remind me of Motion City Soundtrack. It sounds good it's just not the same. For anyone out there whos dissapointed .. listen over it a couple times . it will grow on you. Overall the cd is awesome . if you dont have it pick it up.
