Amazing Retro,

This review is from: Stop Drop And Roll (Audio CD)
I "discovered" Foxboro Hottubs in the bargain bin at a Base Exchange in Balad Air Base in Iraq. I bought the album purely out of an interest for the art direction and an intense desire to hear something not in the mainstream. Initially, I was impressed, but I criticized the lead singer for "sounding too much like Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day." Imagine my surprise when I learned that Foxboro Hottubs was in fact the same band members as Green Day. Forget the awards and the pop scene hype, this is what Armstrong, Dirnt, Cool, White, Freese and Preston are all about, profound yet everyday music that isn't pretentious. If you're an indie music snob, get lost, and if you're a pop sensation evangelist, get lost, this album isn't for you. I think this album is about having fun and being true to yourself, Hollywood be damned. Ironically, I find that "American Idiot" and similar songs are quite popular with the US Military despite the `anti-American' message. Foxboro Hottubs, likewise, is quintessentially American, the message is "We are here, we don't care what you think, We're here to live."
...God Bless Rock and Roll .

Yeah it's Green Day. But no it's not. And while it only takes a quick glance at some reviewers to understand that shades of gray escape them, I gotta ask...why make such a big deal out of what is a one off, for their own fun, and hey some fans might like it too album? The songs are short, fast and fun, much like ice cream on a hot summer day. Take it for what it is.

Great rock and roll album!,

Green Day tries something different with this fun, catchy, and two-sided rock album. I commend them for trying something different with Foxboro Hot Tubs (garage rock) and The Network (Devoesque rock). Both efforts are worth your time and money. Also, Foxboro Hot Tubs are on tour now and it's well well well worth it to see them if you can. You may never get another chance to see Green Day perform in a small intimate venue, like they are now.
