3. What If
4. Fireworks
5. Leavin'
6. Shine
7. Your Fault
8. Happy Someday
9. Lonely September
10. Can't Turn Away
11. Penny (Perfect for You)
12. Radios in Heaven

This CD is great. The lyrics are easy to relate to and well written. Tom has a nice voice, and the band is good. This is pop punl at it's best.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best in a long while, August 22, 2002
By
Luke (Seattle WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop (Audio CD)
When a friend of mine came up to me with a cd from "a friend's band from Chicago", i was skeptical to say the least.. and as the intro to Stop, the first and title track, kicked in, my skepticism was left in the dust. The Plain White T's manage to combine the catchiness and punkish guitars of The Get Up Kids, with the hearbreaking lyrics of Dashboard Confessional, and diversity of speed and heaviness of Saves the Day. They combine all this for a fresh, pure new sound in by far the best album of 2002.

From the first track, the Plain White T's spill an incredible energy, a rarity to the current emo scene. The guys bring two things that emo hasn't seen in a while.. more traditional timing and presentation of their guitar solos, that, in a word-- rock; and suprisingly, a little bit of optomism.. They are NOT just another bland ripoff of popular bands like Dashboard. Instead of loathing in self pity after the end of heartbreak, The T's, capture the thoughts going through the head of the dumped brilliantly, yet are not afraid to move on (What if) or blame the other person (all your fault) things not heard often in emo.

The Plain White T's also avoid the one dimension-ness of many new emo bands.. The songwriting is incredible, spaning from a plea to an alchoholic friend, (Shine) to an heartbreaking song of a lost friend (Radios in Heaven).. The classic emo themes are definately not lost, however. The song Lonely September, my favorite on the album, is one of the best pure acoustic emo songs i've heard in a long long while. The lyrics capture the loneliness, helplessness, and paranoia of a breakup like only emo can. (Example- "Sitting here all by myself just trying to think of somethin to do, tryin to think of somethin anything just to keep me from thinking of you). Stop is built beautifully.. it captures you on first listen with catchy chord transitions and pop-friendly beats, then keeps you listening over and over again for the powerful songwriting and a well developed relationships between instruments.. i have played the cd for almost everyone i know since getting it, and every person, regardless of what type of music they listen to, has been left practically breathless... this is without a doubt the best album I have heard in a very long while, and I would recommend it whole heartedly to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent rock at its finest, June 28, 2006

I must admit, I had never heard of this band until a good friend of mine sent me a song of theirs. The moment I heard it, I was hooked. The lyrics are intelligent and tap into real emotion. A must have for anyone who likes to have some substance with their strumming.

5.0 out of 5 stars PLAIN WHITE T'S RULE, January 6, 2005
By
This review is from: Stop (Audio CD)
Last year, while watching MTV's real world/road rules challenge, I heard the song "what if" and did some research to find out who sang it because i really liked it. After finding out it was the Plain White T's, I checked out their cd and instantly fell in love with it. All of my friends are now hooked on the Plain White T's! I have been able to sample some songs coming out on their new album (which drops January 25th) and what can I say, they are great songs. You can check them out at www.purevolume.com/plainwhitets

The Top Songs I recommend are
Stop (awesome song! it's very catchy and puts you in a good mood. "you say the word maybe, cause it always means no....but i'm keeping my hopes up that some day you'll grow..UP!")

A Lonely September (again an awesome song. it's slower and the lyrics are AMAZING. i seriously wish i had the skills to write this song myself. it's about remembering a girl from the past. "im sitting here all by myself just trying to think of something to do/ trying to think of something, anything just to keep me from thinking of you.")

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD, May 5, 2007
This review is from: Stop (Audio CD)
I first heard of Plain White T's through a friend and after finding their album "Every Second Counts" (and loving it!) I decided to go and find the band's other CDs too.

It's hard to pick one favorite song here because they're all so good. Like most of the band's songs the lyrics are really powerful. Sometimes they're called Alternative and Punk, but I'd term their music as closer to rock--something similar to Daniel Powter and a little softer than Matchbox 20 (circa "More than you think you are") and a little angrier/punkier than Train.

"Radios in Heaven" is likely the most well known song on this album. It's a classic lost love ballad and is quite good. However, I find the band's break up songs to be much more powerful and evocative. My personal favorite on this CD is "Penny (Perfect for you)." The song begins with the recurring line "What's your car doing outside his house, it's three o'clock in the morning"--a line that sets up the theme for rest of the song. Interestingly, this song keeps the same tempo and upbeat sound of other songs on the album (like "Happy Someday"--a forward-looking song about not dwelling on regrets) so that it is only with repeated listening that the underlying meaning comes through.

That's the great thing about this album. The songs are all multi-dimensional and offer a unique experience.

i love this cd! it's my favorite of all of their cds. it seems so real, because it is. these songs were written when the guys were regular people, complaining about life as a teenager in the suburbs. i can relate to a lot of the songs, and they're super catchy. Penny is my favorite song by the t's. this cd sounds completely unmanufactured, which is probably why i love it so much.

buy it you crazy kids!

I saw these guys in concert, they were one of the opening bands for the main band I'd gone to see. After the first song they played I was absolutley floored. They just blew me away. Easily the best band on the ticket. I picked up the CD after the show and haven't stopped listening to it. All of their lyrics are easy to relate to, the vocals are great, the band is great. Favorite tracks: Fireworks, Happy Someday, Please Don't Do This, Stop, followed by the rest of the disc. Not a bad track on here.

This review is from: Stop (Audio CD)
When I bought the Punk Goes acoustic CD, a bonus cd was included and Plain White T's song Anything was on it. I liked it. So I decided I would check out more of their stuff, and I can definetly say I wasn't disappointed. These guys are awesome. Right now its hard for me to pick a favorite, but right now my favorites are A lonely september, and Radios in heaven. If anyone of you ever get the chance to check'em out you should its worth it

I am amazed that these guys are not national stars. The songwriting is the strongest I have come across in years. The album doesn't have a miss on it.
