This is the best book I have seen on this subject. Mr. Sedler really goes into detail and gives an in depth look at the Biblical rules that guide speech. This is the complete how-to book on controlling one's tongue.

Thank You!!,

I can't imagine anyone reading this book and not finding it to be both challenging and helpful. The personal stories alone were worth the cost of the book. This book helped me see the dangers of listening to others say something negative about a person. I always thought it was okay to just keep my mouth shut, but now I see it still impacted me. To me, if someone does not find this book helpful it is because they are caught up in the very deception that Dr. Sedler discusses. I am having all my employees read this book. It should greatly reduce the problems we have from time to time with gossip.

Top Notch Book...A MUST READ,
By A Customer
This review is from: Stop the Runaway Conversation: Take Control Over Gossip and Criticism (Paperback)
I couldn't agree more with almost every review. This book is fabulous. It challenges our thinking, but gives positive approaches to reducing gossip in our lives. As soon as I finished the book, I found it helpful. I read it in one day and wish I would have read it years ago. This is the second book of Dr. Sedler's I have read and I hope he continues to write. THey are both fabulous. (the other was "When to Speak Up (and When Not To)...great title. Thanks for your transparency and openness. How nice to read a book where the author admits he has made mistakes and learned (or is learning)from them.

Incredibly the Best![.],

Most of the reviews of this book by readers have been pretty good, with one review really not understanding the premise of its subject matter. As far as logic, Dr. Sedler hits this nail square on the head, and it pierces through to the heart as well, as he approaches the topic of gossip and the evil report from a biblical perspective. He not only uses the Bible to show examples of what he teaches, but he uses everyday examples as well. A former reviewer claimed he didn't use everyday examples, but maybe he read a different book than the one Michael Sedler wrote. This is a much needed...and I say it again...A MUCH NEEDED book in the Christian community. We are ravaged by gossip, evil reporting of one another, division, hatred, and strife. Could it be that Michael Sedler is on to something, and those who don't like his book maybe guilty of the same things he instructs about. I know I have been convicted by reading this, and I'll read it again. Thank you, Dr. Sedler, for an awesome, and one of the most instructive and incredibly best books on the use of tongue in modern times, and I've read many. This is truly a God-honoring, edifying book for the whole body of Christ. Hopefully many will read it and take heed. Highly recommended![.]

Well worth the time to read,
By Tomas Stanley (Georgia) - See all my reviews

From the first page, this book was interesting and helpful. As a fellow teacher, I found the author's attitude to be one of help, guidance and love for others.I wanted a book that would be prescriptive, teach me how to walk through difficult conversations. This book was the one. Yes, it was asking me to look at my own life...this may be hard for some of us (like me), but I believe it is necessary if we are to improve ourselves. What a super book to give a friend, a class, a group of new people at a church or wherever you work. It will decrease the negative talk and improve the climate.

Is everyone reading the same book?,
By Kelli Ellingson (New Haven,CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stop the Runaway Conversation: Take Control Over Gossip and Criticism (Paperback)
I have read many books about the tongue and I find this book to be one of the best. However, I find it interesting that there is such a discrepency in reviews. Almost everyone says this is a great book. One person is way out there as is one editorial review. The author was at our church and changed the very fabric of the way we now talk. I have heard him on Moody and other stations. This is an outstanding book that definitely challenges people. But, it is a Christian book. If you have issues with God, faith, and mentioning the Bible, you will struggle with this book. Instead, find a secular book that has no mention of God. This book is a Christian book and therefore discusses the Bible. If someone is unable to relate to the Bible, this is not the author's fault. If someone is unable to relate to kids, marriage, schools, counseling, friends and other topics, again this is not the author's fault. If someone can't identify with peer pressure (Mary/Martha), with family prejudice (Shimei), or with lies about others (Haman), this is not the author's fault. It would seem that this topic touches something deep within people, especially those unable to hold up a mirror to life. This is a great book and will help people in their everyday life.

Packed with Wisdom & Good Examples...,

When I first starting reading this book, I thought: "This will be a breeze. I don't have a problem with gossiping!" But, then it brought to light how 'just listening' to gossip and not doing anything to stop it, is just as bad. We are all exposed to gossip in so many ways, we are callous and desensitized to it.
I love how the author also showed Biblical examples of how evil reports led to the downfall of people like Nebuchadnezzar and Haman to name a few. This book was eye-opening to say the least. It is such a beneficial read, I was oblivious to what an 'evil report' really was and am glad to have the benefit of wise instruction! I took this as a course at my church. I would highly reccommend this author/instructor; Dr Michael Sedler. He has allot of wisdom and insight!

Stop the gossip,
This review is from: Stop the Runaway Conversation: Take Control Over Gossip and Criticism (Paperback)
Good read. Also gives some Biblical references to anyone who doubts that the gossip is wrong. The folks who like to slander the innocent never seem to remember that the Lord called it the serpent's tounge to spread untruths about people, no matter the "reason". I've seen more than one office place that could have used this book.

Serving in church leadership, one of the most troubling things I witness that rips the Body of Christ apart from the inside out is rampant gossip. Although the Bible teaches us to abhor gossip, we seem to ignore its recommendations. Dr. Sedler's book dissects the subtle yet important steps that support the beginning of and continuation of gossip. Importantly, he shows that gossip harms the spiritual well-being of all who participate in it, not just those it is directed at. His careful analysis leads to important self-examination and character change that will improve your participation in the Body of Christ.
