Five proven strategies for getting "unstuck" at work, in relationships, and in life.,

This review is from: Stop Self-Sabotage: Get Out of Your Own Way to Earn More Money, Improve Your Relationships, and Find the Success You Deserve (Paperback)
I want to recommend STOP Self-Sabotage! Get Out of your Own Way to Earn More Money, Improve Your Relationships and Find the Success You Deserve by Pat Pearson to you.I reviewed this book in the past, but it's been completely rewritten, picked up by a publisher, and Pearson has done a really fabulous job with it. In fact, I can confidently say that it is even worth re-reading. The new version has better examples, is more up-to-date, and is completely relevant to current circumstances. She makes great points about what is likely stopping you from achieving greatness. In the book, she presents six self-sabotage categories - for instance Procrastination and Settling for Less. The descriptions of the behaviors related to each of these categories are very thought provoking and really cause you to reflect and identify which one is your personal match. The descriptions of how these behaviors and outlooks hold us back are so powerful. I saw myself in the "Settling for Less" category. I've done that with diets and in business. Seeing it laid out as a behavior pattern was sobering. Another real eye opener for me was that "Perfectionism" and "Procrastination" go hand in hand. I'm guilty of it and it's so common for women. We set our selves up with "I have to do this first, and this first, and that..." and delay starting on the real project until things are so "perfect" that we sabotage ourselves by either never beginning the important things, or leaving ourselves so little time that we do a poor job. (Or lower our standards, and "Settle for Less.") Pearson's descriptions will help you see yourself and could help you overcome the problems. By helping you become aware of where you're challenged, this book can help you create a plan to overcome it. And that self-awareness is essential to accomplishing greatness.

Self sabotage is so sneaky! It is so easy to spot in friends and family me,bers, but I seldom can spot it in myself. Where I do see it is when I settle for something less than I really want. And, in my tendency to procrastinate and not do what I KNOW to do! This great book will serve as my mirror to peek behind my blind spots. Thank you, Pat Pearson!

Practical guide to overcoming self-sabotage,
This review is from: Stop Self-Sabotage: Get Out of Your Own Way to Earn More Money, Improve Your Relationships, and Find the Success You Deserve (Paperback)
Never has the saying "You are your own worst enemy" taken on more meaning than in this analysis of self-sabotage. Clinical psychotherapist Pat Pearson takes a close look at how people prevent themselves from achieving abundant success and happiness. She explains that individuals set "Deserve Levels" for every aspect of their lives. If they try to exceed these self-imposed limits, they become conflicted and often undermine their success with various self-sabotage strategies. Ultimately, if you don't believe at your very core that you deserve something, you won't allow yourself to have it. You'll lose weight just to gain it back, fail to develop an intimate relationship or get fired from your dream job. If you feel you are constantly falling short of getting what you want, getAbstract recommends this book to you. Its systematic advice, self-tests, transforming exercises, concrete action recommendations, self-affirming strategies and real-life examples will help you smash your "internal glass ceiling."

As a Life Coach facilitating sessions on stopping self-sabotage, this is the best resource I have come across. Pat has nailed it! And, presented the material in a way that can be shared with others to generate awareness and change. I am impressed.

This is the first book of this nature that I have read, but I like that it zeros in on "deserve level" and beliefs about oneself as possible reasons for holding yourself back. I feel I have gained a wonderful new perspective for each day.

Not as good as the Title suggests,

This book didn't live upto its title. Self sabotage is such an insidious and often deeply subconscious impairment in ones judgement, and although this book made some good points, it was too general to really hit the nail on the head. Although my viewpoint is subjective, I really thought this book would give plenty of 'aha' moments, but most of the content I had read or seen before and found it skimmed the surface of what is a serious repetitive and destructive cycle of self sabotage. On reflection this is a good beginners book or introduction to self sabotage but is not for someone who is looking to do some serious self reflection and take action.
