Best Rabbit Book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Storey's Guide to Raising Rabbits, 4th Edition (Paperback)
Absolutely the best rabbit book around! This guy has been raising rabbits since he was a little kid and he really knows his stuff. He has a wonderful concept (and I haven't seen this anywhere else) for building and setting up rabbit cages. He talks about things (like raising earth worms beneath the rabbit cages) that other people don't even mention. He has excellent advise about the nuts-and-bolts of raising rabbits (how often to breed, how to kindle in cold climates, how to feed, etc). If I could only have ONE rabbit book this would be it. And be sure to get the most recent edition (I think it was published in 2009 or 2010). It really is different (more updated and better) than previous editions. Also, the best price I found for this book was on Amazon.com.

Very helpful book for those wanting to raise a bunch of rabbits!
I love how practical this writer is! He covers rabbits being great for so many purposes and how to enjoy the benefits of each of those purposes. ie. * raising, care and breeding (of course) * also killing and dressing them up for meals and how healthy they are to eat * selling young to various markets/sources * using their droppings for excellent fertilizer (and even to sell as fertilizer) * ideas of having a worm farm with that fertilizer (for even further money making avenues) the list goes on.... it's a great book, highly recommended!

This book was exactly what I was looking for. A good descriptive book that talks to the reader like they are right there. Bob takes you through his years of experience in rabbit raising. He tells you how to start right, and how to make your rabbitry something that you can enjoy for years to come. It is a very good beginners book as well as an expert book. No matter where you are in the proccess of raising rabbits, Bob talks about the modern ways that you can improve.

For meat rabbits only,

The Storey's Guide series are a great informative series of books if you have a farm and are raising livestock.
This book won't help you much if you are planning on rabbits as pets or raising/breeding woolly rabbits (ie angoras). I also have the book "Good Rabbitkeeping" which you can usually find at an Orscheln, Tractor Supply Company, or Petco/Petsmart and it's a better general book for pet rabbits. I've yet to find a good book on angoras. If you are planning on raising rabbits for meat, this book is exactly what you want. It will tell you what breeds to look for, how best to plan for a rabbit operation (building plans and advice included), and what equipment and feed will give you the best bang for the buck. There are even rabbit recipes included.

BEST RABBIT BOOK I'VE EVER READ!,
This review is from: Storey's Guide to Raising Rabbits, 4th Edition (Paperback)
This is the best rabbit book I've ever read, and I've read 10 to 20 at least. For animal activists, it's not good, but to people who would like to make a profit and be a successful rabbit owners and breeders, this is the best book ever. It tells about everything you need to know, including building your own cages. It's not a cruel book, it's helpful. It shows the practical view of Raising Rabbits. It includes:
1. The best meat rabbits 2. Ideas to turn rabbits into a good living 3. Tips on showing 4. And much, much, much more. For people who are aiming more for the pets industry, don't read this book. For people who aren't cruel to animals, but are flexible enough for meat raising, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!

Well written, with great ideas for the small time rabbit keeper, AND the large scale rabbit keeper. A lot of information on how to raise rabbits for money with an emphasis on meat sales. Still great information about housing and breeding too. You can tell the author has kept rabbits for many years, and seriously. Well laid out and organized.

This book covers any questions a beginner might have for his/her rabbitry. I had done countless hours of reading and research on the internet and still found valuable information in this book for beginning my own rabbitry. Half of the information I had read online I was unable to go back and find again. This book has everything I had read online plus tons more of information, and I now have a copy to refer to whenever I need it.*If you plan to keep a rabbit as a fluffy, soft, cuddly pet, this book is probably not for you. This is a farm guide and written as such.

Like a lot of people I am becoming more aware of problems with our industrial food system, especially when it come to our meat. About the only animal that you can raise almost anywhere, producing high quality meat, with the minimum external input is rabbits. This is the basic bible for raising meat rabbits. After reading this book you will know enough to ask pointed questions and understand when you are being led down the Bugs Bunny path. The author has been raising rabbits long before most potential readers have been alive, and much of that wisdom is included in the book. One problem I am noticing as I continue my research in producing my own rabbit meat is that many of the rabbit breeders are not raising rabbits for food, even with the less common meat breeds, but raising bunnies for show and for pets. Kinda like cat lovers, but a little more heavy on the warm-fuzzy. This means when you finally decide what type of rabbits you would like to use to control your meat supply, finding a breeder in your area or one willing to ship it to you, like the book's author, might be a frustrating experience.
