5.0 out of 5 stars There's nothing like seeing him live......, December 15, 2000

Where to start, where to start.......I have listened to John play The Ark in downtown Ann Arbor my entire life and haven't been disappointed yet. His albums are wonderful and yet nothing compares to the experience of watching from a few feel away as he plays his hammered dulcimer and tells the stories that go with his songs. Storied Ground is one of my favorites - I especially like "Closing the Bookstore Down," which has even more meaning when you hear it played a few blocks from Borders' world headquarters, as they are just the sort of conglomerate he's talking about. If you ever have a chance, go see him, and bring your kids (and cd's for him to autograph - my siblings and I each have one that he signed for us.) I have almost all of his albums, - I buy them at his concerts, and they tide me over until next year, when John's in town again.

This is a great example of John's "adult" music. His subject matter is wide ranging and the performances are flawless. If you have children check out his Four Seasons albums, they are fantastic.

One word sums up this album. EXCELLENT. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes listening to talented musicians and meaningful lyrics. It's a pity that the UK couldn't swap the Spice Girls for musical talent such as John McCutcheon!
