After reading most of these stories to my daughter, starting when she was six, I spent the last ten months reading most of them her 2nd grade class every Friday afternoon. On the days I didn't bring the Dragon boook, I was subjected to moans of disappointment. Kids Love Dragon Stories! They love the morals, they love the characters, they love the action, they love the exposure to the myths of other cultures, and boy, do they love the artwork. You owe it to yourself to get this book for kids.... and yourself.

I can't figure out why they said this book is for young children. The stories contain numerous graphic killing/battle scenes with impalings and decapitations. Several stories contain or end with immoral actions that are left unresolved.

Some of the bad stories:
- A god carelessly kills a dwarf, brings the body to the dwarf's father, who says that the god can repair some of the wrong by paying his dead son's weight in gold.
- A son kills his father out of greed.
- A dragon is maimed by a knight, humiliated and turned into a pet.
- A father dragon and his children are tricked by being invited to a feast, where they eat too much and are later ambushed. The father dragon is killed leaving the children scattered, alone and afraid.
- Angry, violent gods create and kill dragons out of revenge and a desire to kill each other.
- A brother goes to save his sister from a dragon with a magic flute that forces animals to dance. He finds the dragon and forces it to dance over a lake. The dragon begs and pleads for its life, but the brother makes it dance until its strength gives out and it drowns!

A few good stories:
- Two brothers work to marry a princess, who ends up with the honest brother.
- Three soldiers who nearly become a dragon's slaves because of greed, but escape and learn their lesson in the end.
- A man catches a dragon while fishing, the dragon convinces him to release him, and later rewards the man with bountiful fish catches.

I'm rating it with 2 stars because of the few good stories and the very well done illustrations.

These are GREAT stories! Kids don't always want candy-sweet happily ever after stories. The world isn't made that way. Kids DO love these stories, and so do adults, and I'd wager so will you!

This is a fabulous book for girls and boys. It is creative, funny, well-written, and forward thinking about gender roles. It is a favorite book in our home.

The stories in this book are fun and they also teach a great lesson of morals. Beautiful pictures too.
