meaningful stories,
By Min Jung "min" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stories by O. Henry (Tor Classics) (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought this book contained may storeis that was haert touching. There were two stories that I thought were the most heart touching ones. they are The Gift of the Magi and the Last Leaf. For the Gift of Magi I thought it was a pity how the couple bought each other something valuable by selling their precious things and yet it became useless. They each sold each other's precious things to buy goods for their precious goods. However, this became useless. They loved each other so much that they sacrificed their things for each other. The Last Leaf was also heartwarming because it teaches lesson of hope. The girl with pneumonia had negative attitude towards her illness and thought that she is going to die when the last leaf falls. Listening to this story, the painter drew a fake leaf and put it on the branch so that when the girl with pneumonia sees it, it will be still there and she will have hope. THe painter was found dead in sokaing wet clothes. I thought risking his own life to give a girl hope was heart touching. I think O. Henry's stories are very meaningful and it is worth reading for.
