5.0 out of 5 stars I Listen to This One Over and Over...
I absolutely love Maura O'Connell's voice, and while I like all of her albums, Stories is the one that I play over and over, the one that I take on road trips, the one that I pretty much have memorized. A really fine mix of songs---my especial favorite is "Half Moon Bay," a haunting memory-song which never fails to get me weepy. If you're buying your first...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant but not Memorable
Maura O'Connell has a fine and pleasing voice and she uses it well. She deservedly has a large following which includes me. This album, though, is not her best work. This runs contrary to popular opinion but it is my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with her work here, I just didn't find any stellar examples. Its good, pleasant background stuff but not...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Find, April 1, 2001

There is something about Maura O'Connell's voice, that is just enchanting - to the point that I purchased 3 CDS - (2 from a local retailer, and another from Amazon without even hearing any of the songs), in the space of 4 hours.

Stories was the first album I heard - way back in 1997 - and I have been hooked on this voice ever since.

To be honest, this voice just hits a chord deep inside. Give her a listen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable! One of my all-time favorites., December 21, 2003

On a trip to Big Sur and surrounding areas, I had only this CD to listen to for over 15 hours of driving -- not even the radio worked. And I still couldn't get enough. And now here I am, years later, still listening to the CD on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Ordinary Day is a painting of a song. And Maura's vocal on Poetic Justice is as beautiful as anytthing ever recorded. Get this CD and you will have no regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars On top of my list, March 16, 2000

This album has been the one I've been listening to most often of my more than 600 CDs since I got it about 6 months back. Should be clear how highly I value it. Favourite tracks include Ordinary day and Stories, but there are no tracks I use to skip. I just love Maura's voice and singing, and I have all her CDs. Jerry Douglas has done a great job as the producer again, and he is a genius playing the dobro.

I discovered Maura O'Connell quite by accident on Thanksgiving Day last year. Surfing through 90 cable channels I came upon Maura singing "Blue Train" with Nancy Griffiths on back-up vocals, and was mezmerized. I purchased both that CD and this one that day.

If you value singing, phrasing and great choices of material, buy this one now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Best Album To Date, November 2, 1998

Absolutely brilliant album. The songs are first rate, but her voice is what makes the songs so memorable. Half Moon Bay alone is worth the price of the CD. A must-have recording from a first rate singer.

This wonderful CD became even more meaningful to me post Katrina. Several of the songs could have been written about her. In any case this is a tremendous piece of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maura O'Connell's "Stories" is one of my new favorites., April 4, 1999

I just saw a professional dance troop preform to the song "Poetic Justice" and I was over-whelmed by the song. They used a med-evil type floor show and the song fit so well with the show that I was awash with tear by the end of the preformance. I still do not know which made me cry more: the show or the song. They both touched me in a very real and dear way.
