This review is from: Stories from the Rains of Love and Death: Four Plays from Iran (Paperback)
I am half-Iranian from my dad's side, so I connected to the plays written in this book. I was especially touched by the first one, "Aurash", as I have heard the story many times in my childhood, and so I was very surprised to see the story reframed from a modern perspective. The second play, "The Death of the King", was an intriguing tragicomic murder mystery of mistaken identities with a twist ending that will blindside you. Although both stories are taken from the Persian canon, I think it is accessible to readers who are not familiar with Persian culture.
I didn't find the other two plays -- both set in contemporary times -- very engaging. They were average. |
