A book of Pop's origins and lessons learned on his journey. I could not put the book down. It was really interesting on how things were back in the day and what kinds of "acts" there were on the streets. Just a great story of how it was as a street performer and tips and tricks here and there from Pop. Really glad I had the opportunity to read this one.

Pop Haydn (my older and less good looking brother) has been a street performer of magic for many years. He has specialized in performing on street corners, in bars, and at fairs and on cruise ships, showing magic tricks with coins, rings, cards and shot glasses to passers-by and bar customers.
His book is filled with stories and instructions on how to become a profitable street performer. Pop shows how to stop foot traffic at street corners, trade shows and other public places, how to collect and interest a crowd into watching his tricks, and how to get them to pay off in tips with real folding money. Pop then shows how to hook the interest of the crowd and keep them hooked, and how to non-verbally entice some people in a group to assist him in fooling the others in their party. Many of his magic tricks are described as he relates how he used his skills to entertain and enthrall strangers with his patter, his tricks and his special techniques.
Although this book is aimed at magician street performers, anyone interested in the psychology of crowd control, non-verbal communication and cold sales will be fascinated with the tales and descriptions of how to stop, hold and win a crowd of people who are not there originally to see your show.
The stories of his experiences are interesting and fun, and this is an excellent addition to any library of materials on magic, acting techniques, crowd control and to be honest, becoming a grifter.
Buy this book! You will be glad you did!

This book has brought me a new perspective of street performers. It gave good life lessons and a great way to learn on how to bring a crowd in and keep the crowd there so you can performe. When I was reading this book my mind didnt go anywhere but in the story. It was very intresting to learn about the tricks that Whit Haydn performed to people. And what got me was all the places that He travled to. And all the money that He was making. Ive read this book to help me with my ethnography and it has givven me a better understanging of what to expect. Because im guessing most street performers go the same rout as Haydn did. But this book is perfect for begining street performes and I hope that whoever reads this book can get a life lesson out of it. I didn't but thats because i dont want to be a street performer or a magician.

It's not a long book but in those pages lies some of the best advice I've been given about performing magic to an audience.

Pop speaks volumes from his years of experience as a professional magician in an easy and fun manner which mirrors his onstage persona.

If you are looking to perform magic or otherwise interest and engage a small crowd herein lies some delightful anecdotes and straight tips on how to shine.
