Editorial Reviews

Mesa, AZ based punk rock royalty Authority Zero returns with the release of their fourth studio album, Stories of Survival. Founded in the summer of 1994, the band has flourished for nearly two decades.

Lava Records signed Authority Zero for the release of their iconic 2002 debut album A Passage In Time . The album drew comparisons to Bad Religion and Sublime and toured with Sum 41 and on the Warped Tour. They released their sophomore effort Andiamo in 2004. The album embraced more ska and reggae influences paired with Latin-flavored rhythms to create their most culturally diverse record to date.

Authority Zero then released two other well received releases, a live album titled Rhythm and Booze and 2007 s 12:34 . Incredibly successful tours alongside Regab, Pennywise and Pepper followed these releases before the band returned to the studio to begin crafting this new release.

These guys are so good. It is a crime that they aren't heard on every radio station and aren't a household name. Anyway...the album itself is full of their unique brand of catchy, aggressive, fast punk rock with about 4 reggae-influenced songs. At first, I was thinking that this wasn't their strongest release, but after playing it a few more times, it has continued to grow on me, and now this is probably my favorite album of theirs. The lyrics are emotional and creative, and there isn't a dull moment on the whole album. The musicianship is really really good.
These guys are in my top 5 favorite bands ever, and are my favorite live band. They bring so much energy to every show they do, you can't help but get into it, even if you're not familiar with their music. I've never seen a band with such an ability to rile a crowd up and get everybody into it. On top of that, they are super nice, approachable dudes.
Long story short, if you liked these guys' previous releases, you will love this one. And for those of you who haven't heard them, please give them a chance. You won't be disappointed.

The music in this album is very good, fast-paced rock. With catchy melodies and vocals, this is one of the best music purchases I've made in quite some time. I highly recommend it.

Authority Zero has always been a band to put out solid material on a regular basis with passion, energy, and musicianship to rival any other band on or off the radio. Having said that, 12:34 showed a change in style that just seemed a bit formulaic to me. the mid tempo, no reggae songs with uplifting lyrics that filled most of the cd were very good, just not as creative as AZ has been in the past. This time around, with return of bassist Jeremy Wood, we see a lot of his creativity, as well as the band's, building on the strengths of their previous releases while also keeping things fresh and bringing a little of the old sound back into the picture as well. Jeremy's driving basslines along to Jason's voice make every track on this album a winner, and the heavy reggae influence towards the end of the cd make this a must for fans of any previous release. Still not as raw as Andiamo and their debut, this cd is a step in the right direction for a band that continues to deliver the goods, whether in the mainstream of underground.

I have been a fan of Authority Zero ever since I heard One More Minutes and onwards. Their motivational and positive lyrics have always motivated me. They are about whats real. They always have been. This album is no different, but is really in touch with the times and is music for the people. From Big Bad World, to Movement, its so cursing awesome! The guitar playing in Movement at the beginning and the end is like something out of a summer dream. It takes me away. When you are feeling mad and like the world is against you, just put on these guys and listen! My favorites are, Brick In The Wave, Get it Right, Big Bad World, Crashland, Librateducation, Movement, and The Remedy. You can't go wrong if you are a rocker and have that west coast mentality too!

Love these guys... have followed them since 'One More Minute'.... highly underrated band. Lead singer pops around Tempe/Phoenix just playing acoustic gigs... these guys play bc they genuinely love it. Like Sublime/NoFX/Something Corporate had one awesome baby....
