Book Description

Gnomon Chapbook Series January 1, 1997
Fiction. Two stories of rural life from the author of WATCH WITH ME and FIDELITY, newly available in paperback from Gnomon. As a celebrator of the land and the turning of the seasons that govern us still, Wendell Berry is, indeed, our writer for all seasons -- Wade Hall, Lexington Herald-Leader. Wallace Stegner writes, It's hard to say whether I like [Berry] better as a poet, an essayist, or a novelist. He is all three, at a high level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another chestnut!, June 5, 2000
This review is from: Two More Stories of the Port William Membership (Gnomon Chapbook Series) (Paperback)
This small book is a must if you love Berry. The first tale describes a day of work in a tobacco patch for Berry's hard working farmer, Elton Penn. I like to imagine my great grandfather being like Elton, so full of grace and honesty.

Wheeler Catlett is the star of the second story, and you see this beautiful man driving in a way that nearly ignores the modern highway that is written so nastily across the farmlands. The story is funny and moving to its final sentence.
