About the Author

Amy Higgins Artino was born and raised in the greater Philadelphia area, and graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a degree in literature and a minor in journalism. She moved to Los Angeles in 2005. Amy lives in the South Bay area of L.A. with her husband and their dogs, Katie and Scamper. Ashley M. Ratcliff, the second oldest of six children, was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in San Diego, California. She graduated in 2006 from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she majored in sociology and minored in professional writing with an editing emphasis. Ashley resides in Long Beach, California, with her dog, Berkeley Buster. Mary Scott was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains, along the Tug River Valley that splits Kentucky and West Virginia. She attended Eastern Kentucky University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Mary is a Desert Storm-era veteran. She has been a journalist for the last 11 years. She resides in Hermosa Beach, California. Rebecca Villaneda is a Los Angeles-born writer educated in southern and northern California. She is the youngest of four children, all first-generation Americans. Her parents left their roots in Zacatecas, Mexico, to raise their family in the United States because they wanted to give their children the best opportunities possible. Rebecca became a writer to raise awareness of social and environmental issues, and because her mother's passion for the written word was contagious.
