Wonderful stories - lacklustre illustrations,

This review is from: Stories for Young People: Oscar Wilde (Hardcover)
This edition provides a four page introduction and five well loved stories for children by Oscar Wilde: The Happy Prince; The Selfish Giant; The Nightingale and the Rose; The Devoted Friend and The Remarkable Rocket. It also features a somewhat perfunctory index.
An interesting feature is a page by page glossary which children and adults alike will find interesting. My major reservation with this book is its colour illustrations which I find quite unappealing and uninspired. I have seen many illustrators tackle The Selfish Giant, for example, but these illustrations are quite banal and lacklustre. |
