First let me say that this item comes with software for playing DVD's and making music CD's and data CD's. It has a very compact design which makes it very easy to fit in laptop bags. It does not need the power cord that comes with it because it is powerd by the USB port which is a great idea. It has buffer under run technology which helps in the process of CD burning. I would recommend this item for anyone.
