I have read nearly all of the TNG books, and I have to say: this is without doubt one of the worst.

There were some good things about the book (not many but some), one of which was the descriptions of Ne'elat, which I found to be quite vivid, and the other is the front cover, which has a nice use of gold lettering and colour, although I'm not sure this should be considered when buying the book. Other than that though ...

As far as bad points go, there is practically no insight into the characters of the crew or the aliens. I will go as far to admit that I admired the author's style of writing, and it would have been a good book if it hadn't been so MIND-NUMBINGLY BORING!

I could tell from the start that this was not going to be one of TNG's best offerings, and unfortunately I was proved right. There was no plot to speak of, way too much speaking, and as I said before, no character information.

In my opinion: don't waste your money. Buy 'Imzadi' or 'Q in Law'.

I have read 75% of the Next Gen. books, and this is, by far, the worst of the lot.The plot, (if you can call it that), is extremely boring.The action is non-existant. I had difficulty forcing myself to finish the book. Don't bother, it's a waste of time.

This novel uses one of the classical plotlines: Man vs Nature.

Many sci-fi novels have used the premise of finding th lost colony to solve the ills of the present culture. Battlestar Gallactica comes to mind.

This novel could have been condensed to make the flow better. It gets lost in side stories to easily.

More of a Troi story than the cover suggests.

This was a perfectly mediocre, run-of-the-mill Star Trek story, written well enough to get it up into the above-average, "worth the read if there's nothing better to do" category. The sub-plot with Worf & the hamster was just silly and didn't really do Worf's character justice, the sub-plot of the search for the herb needed for medical treatment was formulaic in its existence and predictable in its conclusion, the diplomatic breakthrough seemed extremely contrived & unlikely, but still, the story was a fun read if far from exceptional.

Despite several bad reviews of this book, I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was a refreshing change from the normal space battles and plots that usually are written. Since I consider myself a Historian of the Future, my only complaint was the lack of specified time periods between past events. That made it difficult to place events in the timeline.

I've read most of the TNG books and found this one to be without a doubt the most boring of the bunch. Try as I might, I could not finish this boring entry in the TNG library. From a dull story to flat and uninteresting characters....this is one to be avoided.

Little action and less interest. This is definatly one of the poorest star trek novels yet. The formula plot has no surprises. The ending was just plain silly.

Star Trek - The Next Generation: TO Storm Heaven written by Esther Friesner is really a well-written book contrary to what has been said here in these reviews. If your looking for action-adventure there isn't much in this story as the main character is Geordi LaForge in this book.

If you're looking for a story with imagination and a good storyline this is the book for you... no blood and guts. As this is well trodden path, a planet with a plague, the way the author puts a few twists and turns along the way into the story to keep you interested. There are Prime Directive issues in this book and there is a union of Skerrian daughterworlds along with planet-wide intrigue.

All in all, I found this book to be a good fast read and it was a refreshing that we didn't have to read about space battles, but battles of a different kind as the search for the cure for a plague is found underfoot. If you want to read an intriguingly different type of story this book will be for you. I gave this book a solid 4 stars just for that reason. As interesting as the tapestry of TREK is, this book adds to the TREK universe in a positive way.

It was so mind-numbingly slow that I could not even get through it. Perhaps it ended well, but me, as the reader, would never know that, since the book was too hard to complete. I have read many star trek novels and look forward to new ones being published, but as soon as I read this one, I became wary as to which books I would purchase in the future.

The only Star Trek book I threw out.
