3.0 out of 5 stars Solid kickass music from an unbelievable live performer
With all due respect to a certain well-known motorcycle gang, the title of Hell's Angel belongs rightly to Storm. An SF Bay Area performer who usually begins her performances at midnight, Storm is the real thing - a great voice, an in-your-face attitude, and that magical admixture of passion and decadence that underlies the best in rock music. Storm and Her Dirty Mouth was an amazing performance experience and telling your friends you own this CD will be a claim to fame for decades, even now when the band is "retired". In their hey-day I went to 6 of their concerts here in the Pac North West and every single occasion was simply the MOST energetic and raw awesomeness that I've ever experienced of the hundreds of concerts I've been to, rivaling even my first Pearl Jam experience.

Geoff (the guitarist) went in a different direction about a year after this album came out and I was very worried that the music would suffer. Of course, it would never be the same without Geoff, but the sheer talent of the lead singer kept the music rocking for another year or two of amazing concerts and a sophomore effort. Storm Large (yup, that's her real birth-given name) has an amazing ability to tap directly into your primal core, to twist your adrenal glands and to make you a part of the music experience that is 100% energy.

This EP is a perfect culmination of the post-Grunge/Seattle-Sound; a growth beyond melancholy moodiness but retaining the flavor of angst and social distortion. Storm's voice is as beautiful as Sade's, with as much edge and energy as Henry Rollins, and as mind tripping as Maynard. I'm reminded of 4 Non Blonds, Concrete Blond, and even some Nina Samone when listening to this album, but better, more "alive", more "preadatory". Every song on this album is amazing and each shows a different talent of this band: however if pressed for favorites then "Ima Yora" and "Crazy Love" define everything I love about this band.

Some will think it's silly to spend so much time raving about the greatness of a band that is no longer around, but this is definitely an album that should NOT be lost to faded memory. Buy the album and write out your Will to ensure that this piece of history will be passed on as a cherished family heirloom.

(FYI, Storm and her Dirty Mouth became Storm, Inc., which had a bitter dispute with the record label so Storm left the bay area of Cali and formed a band out of Portland called "The Balls" with ex-members of Everclear and Motherlode and put out another album "Hanging with the Balls" in 2003 and if you're lucky and in the area you might catch her at Dante's in Portland Oregon).

This review is from: Storm & Her Dirty Mouth (Audio CD)
With all due respect to a certain well-known motorcycle gang, the title of Hell's Angel belongs rightly to Storm. An SF Bay Area performer who usually begins her performances at midnight, Storm is the real thing - a great voice, an in-your-face attitude, and that magical admixture of passion and decadence that underlies the best in rock music. She is not just vocal pyrotechnics. She works with a great band to produce a transforming live performance. Some impresario is finally going to get this and she is going to finally take her Joan Osborne meets Janis Joplin act big time. Unfortunately, as with most great performers, her studio work is little more than a souvenir of her ability to turn a smoky little club into a temple of despair and redemption. It is solid well done blues/metal/punk influenced rock. But just like Jesus, you sort of have to see her in person to fully grasp the Gospel according to Storm. Nonetheless, you could do worse than spend a half hour with this noble if failed attempt at capturing lightning in a bottle of Jack Daniels.

I've been following Storm since I first saw her open for Art Alexakis a while back. This album, short as it is, rocks! Superman is my fave on this album. You will not be disappointed with Storm's music. Her voice gives me chills even now! A must-have album!

I am a fan from the Flower SF days, and I must say, Storm has truly found her niche. The CD is amazing, lyrical, sensual, all-consuming... there is really no comparison, a must have CD for any collection. The music flows like an ocean, with rapturous waves and ebbing tides. I love it...

5.0 out of 5 stars More like a Monsoon!, October 9, 2006
This review is from: Storm & Her Dirty Mouth (Audio CD)
Storm Large is one of the most incredible vocalists to come onto the rock 'n' roll scene in quite a while. Why the world hasn't heard about her before Rock Star Super Nova is beyond me. There is no one to compare Storm to. She is completly original with a voice from heaven. This E.P. is a great introduction to Storm and The Balls (her band). Every track on here rocks from beginning to end. The best tracks on this disc sre "Superman" and "Geraldine". At first listen, "Geraldine" sounds like an up beat little number with a catchy melody and lyrics, "Things are lookin' different today.". However after listening a couple of times I realized the song was about someone who had died, possibly her mother, and listening to it after knowing this is pretty heart breaking. Storm Large, along with Dilana Smith, are going to lead the music scene in the next movement of women rockers, much the same way that Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland led the riot grrl movement in the 90's. If you get a chance, get this c.d. you may spend a little extra for it but it will be money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Storm and Her Dirty Mouth have the best sound around!, November 25, 1998
This review is from: Storm & Her Dirty Mouth (Audio CD)
This band has exceptional talent - the hooks and rhythm are infectious, the lyrics are witty and intelligent, and the delivery is energetic and funky. It's rock that makes you dance, it's funk that makes you think, it's a band that will make you sing in the shower and sweat between the sheets!

I'm sending this CD's to all my friends abroad - Brit pop's dead! The Rolling Stones can retire! Viva La Storm!
