One Tragedy After Another,
By Jill Clardy "So many books, so little time...." (Redwood City, CA USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Eye Of The Storm (Hudson Family) (Hardcover)
Can one person really endure so much bad luck and tragedy? Rain is raised by a step-family, with many tragedies of their own. Then she inherits most of the fortune of her Grandmother Hudson, which incurs the wrath of her real mother and the vicious, demented Aunt Victoria. She seems to have no friends in the world other than the family chauffeur, Jake. And Jake is not exactly a role model with his lonely life and chronic alcoholism. Another close family member dies tragically, then Rain is paralyzed in a riding accident, and she becomes Aunt Victoria's victim after moving back home. If you've read other V.C. Andrews novels, you know that there will eventually be a happy ending, but getting there is a torturous route. The writing is sometimes laughable, such as the following line at the end of Chapter 5: "Maybe it was a combination of everyone tossing his or her self-interest into the fragile boat of love, sinking it in the sea of tragedy we were destined to cross together." I was also annoyed by the many typographical errors; for instance, the word "panty" was used instead of "pantry" and the psychologist's name was changed back and forth from Dr. Snyder to Dr. Synder multiple times. An attentive editor with a sharp pencil should have caught these inconsistencies. This book reminded me why I stopped reading V.C. Andrews several years ago...unreal, poorly constructed plots and predictable endings after convoluted ramblings through the land of insanity and cruelty.

WONDERFUL!!,

This book was non-stop reading. I warn anyone that buys it to not start reading it till you have several hours to dedicate to it. It was as exciting and page turning as the first two and I am anxiously awaiting the next book. A must have for any V.C. Andrews fan

THE BEST OF THE SERIES....,
By matthew roland (alabama) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having read the other 2 books in the Hudson series, I can honestly say this is by far the greatest one. The plot is more exciting and the characters have more depth. As with the other 2 books, more secrets are revealed, further complicating Rain Arnold's already troubled existance. You get a new look at some of the lesser characters, like Jake. The worst part about this book is having to end it....it leaves you begging for more! Hopefully, all the questions that this book makes you ask will finally be revealed in the last novel of the series: "The End of the Rainbow".

Not Too Great,

This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Yes, the book was the best in the series. But that isn't saying much. The plot was somewhat entertaining, but it had nothing to do with the first books in the series. The second book should have been left out entirely because it added nothing to the plot and, if her name was changed, could have been part of a seperate series. This whole series was just a copy of other series, nothing new. Once again the ghostwriter's plot is the same, poor girl loses a parent and goes to live with rich relatives and falls in love. Yawn! I'm not saying that all V.C. Andrews books are bad, that isn't true. She is my favorite writer and I'm sorry to see the ghostwriter print trash like this. The best books r the Flowers in the Attic books. The first books in the Logan series are very good, but in the last couple of books they go back to the same poor girl to rich girl plot. V.C. Andrews has written many good books, this just isn't one of them.

NOT AS GOOD AS THE PREVIOUS IN THE SERIES,
By
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
After the death of grandmother Hudson, Rain, finds herself in a battle with her mother, and her wicked aunt for a vast fortune. The entire Hudson fortune has been left to Rain, and the other family members will stop at nothing to make sure she does not see a penny of it.After a brief meeting with the family, Rain, makes it clear she is not after the money, but refuses to give it to the rest of the family, for her grandmother wanted it that way. Her aunt Victoria decides to befriend Rain, as a way to fulfill her own agenda. After a tragic accident leaves Rain helpless, she will welcome the kindness of a stranger, while still harbouring the dark secrets that plague her family. "Eye Of The Storm" is not as good as the other novels in this series; it drags on too long, and the reader is overwhelmed with one tragedy after another. V.C. Andrews has a gift for writing dark fiction, but this novels falls short of her previous books. As always, it is well-written, but halfway through the book I did not care what would happen; the characters were transparent, and the plot did not contain the necessary twists to pull the book to it's climax. just another storm,

This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
although this book was better than the first two book in the hudson series, it still wasn't great. when grandmother hudson dies, rain is to inherit millions. aunt victoria, on the other hand, has other plans for rain. rain thought her aunt was crazy before, but she never realized just how crazy she was until rain is forced to live her after a devastating accident. rain is just about to give up on life, until she meets austin clarke, a physical therapist. it was love at first site. aunt vicortia doens't like rain hanging out with austin, and she takes drastic measures to keep them apart. just when rain thinks that her life couldn't get any worse, rain finds herself in a situation where she has to fight for her own life.

Some may say that Rain was better than most of the gostwriter series, but seriously ...The only good series the gostwriter ever wrote were the Logan, Cutler, and Orphans. The rest ... well lets just say thats a waste of eight bucks ... if you want a book to compare to the sensational My Sweet Audrina, or Heaven go out and buy Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden or Rebecca by Daphne Dumaurier.

A Disappointing Continuation,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading this book, I just have to post my thoughts. It is V.C Andrews and her ghost writer's worst book. It is not V.C. Andrews writing style, and the plot has nothing to do with the previous books. It seems as if her ghostwriter was so eager to end the book, she killed off everybody but Rain. This book is horrible-don't buy it.

Redundant and Whiny,
By Lissi "<3 Lissi" (Ellwood City, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second book I didn't like written by the GW, the first being Melody (which got better the second time I read it.) This one didn't. Unfortunately I think that the GW ran out of ideas and decided that he had to crush poor Rain. I mean come on. SPOILERS!! First he kills off her brother and then there is her accident. Then all that stuff that Victoria put her through? It was redundant for one thing. He kept going over what Victoria was doing to her even though he had just said it a few pages before! This was definitely a poor one on Neiderman's side. But oh well, my VCA site can't have all good reveiws lol. If you have to read it, I recomment waiting for it to be at the library or the used bookstore.

Same old story, not much improvement,
By Dwight Tiger "Tigger" (Oklahoma, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Hudson Family, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is somewhat better then the previous novels that came before it. The GW had a chance to make this an outstanding series but he just repeated the Cutler series all over again, only changing the name to Hudson and just added a few changes that really don't set it apart or make it stand alone. The old ORIGINAL VCA books could stand by themselves whereas these new ones don't have a leg to stand on. I wish he wouldn't stretch the story out. At least years passed in the FITA series and the character actually grew instead of being stuck in the same age and year. The Hudson series should be promoted as the Cutler series only with very few changes here and there. I think the GW needs to take a year off to get creative intstead of churning out these novels one after another, that or get a new ghostwriter. But if you wish to know what this book is about, then reread FALLEN HEARTS, TWILIGHT'S CHILD and for the next book in the Hudson series, END OF THE RAINBOW, I suggest you just reread Midnight Whispers, Hidden Jewel and Gates of Paradise instead. The Hudson series, to sum it up: Nothing new. |
