Book Description

Someone is breaking into the houses Jolie appraises. When she realizes a new face in town is leading high school kids into trouble in those houses, Jolie's mad and lets him know it. Hayden offers to help her mind her own business, and a lot of people at the Talk Like a Pirate Day fundraiser for the food pantry hear her give him what for.
A hurricane's on the way to disrupt Talk Like a Pirate Day. When a corpse turns up under the pirate ship the next day, Jolie's looking like a suspect.
Soon she has less work. Who wants a possible murder suspect appraising their house? Scoobie's pirate limericks can't solve a crime, so Jolie and her sometimes buddy local reporter George Winters look for the murderer and try to figure out who's trying to frame Jolie. They need to stay ahead of whoever's mad at her and off the radar of the local police who tell Jolie -- for the hundredth time -- to butt out. All this and Jolie has to deal with Aunt Madge's blossoming love life. And what about her own?
For a cozy mystery with a dose of humor and a touch of romance, join Jolie and friends in Ocean Alley.

Review

I found myself staying up late just to get this book finished. It's full of humor, adventure and even a little romance. Once again Elaine Orr has provided a light, entertaining and fun read.

From the Author

"Any Port in a Storm" was a lot of fun to write.  I wanted to put even more humor into the fourth book of the Jolie Gentil series, and settled on scheduling a fundraiser for the food pantry that was in synch with the annual Talk Like a Pirate Day.  What is that?  Each year the many events held on September 19th are a good excuse to have a good time.  Humorist Dave Barry helped popularize this "holiday," so that gives you a clue about the zaniness.  "Any Port in a Storm" adds mystery and just a touch of romance.  Put on your pirate bandana and eye patch and join the fun in Ocean Alley -- with Jolie, Scobbie, Aunt Madge, and George.  And let's not forget the dogs (Mister Rogers and Miss Piggy) and Jolie's cat, Jazz. And do batten down the hatches -- a hurricane's approaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Stephanie Plum! October 5, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Every new book in the Jolie Gentil series is better than the last. "Any Port in a Storm" kept me puzzling until the last few pages and made me laugh so hard my sides hurt. Move over Stephanie Plum, there's a new girl in town!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down November 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a fun, entertaining, good book. I really enjoy these characters: Jolie, Scoobie, Aunt Madge, George. Even Jazz, Mr. Rogers and Miss Piggy. The development of the story was great...kept me wondering how it was all going to end until the last minute. It was a surprising ending which I, of course, would never give away. I also enjoyed the bit of romance that develops, in more ways than one. I don't like to give away any of the details of the story. All I can say is that, if you enjoyed the first three books in the series, you will definitely enjoy this one. Personally, I think it's the best. I can't wait for #5. Are you listening (reading) Ms Orr?

5.0 out of 5 stars Jolie really doesn't go looking for trouble October 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In Volume 4, Jolie is at it again! It's true, Jolie didn't look for crimes to solve, they find her. Jolie continues to work as an appraiser and chairperson of the food pantry at the local church. This time Scoobie came up with the idea of creating a fund raiser celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day. Jolie has planned and worked hard to get things set up. It's the clean-up that brings trouble her way. Jolie just happens to find a body behind one of the games And then the police just happen to find the murder weapon in the trunk of her car. This time the loose ends Jolie needs to tie up are to save her reputation. Relationships...friends and family seem to grown closer. Aunt Madge has a surprise for Jolie. Again I found myself staying up late just to get this book finished. It's full of humor, adventure and even a little romance. Once again Elaine Orr has provided a light, entertaining and fun read.

More About the Author

Elaine L. Orr writes fiction and nonfiction and introduced the Jolie Gentil cozy mystery series in 2011. Elaine created a setting she likes (an east coast beach town) and a profession that would let Jolie meet a lot of people and have the opportunity to get into a lot of trouble (real estate appraising). And friends, lots of friends. The first book in the series is "Appraisal for Murder," then "Rekindling Motives." "When the Carny Comes to Town" was published in February and "Any Port in a Storm" was out in September 2012. "Trouble on the Doorstep" and Behind the Walls debuted in 2013.

Other books include "Secrets of the Gap," set in Bath, England, home of the astonishing Roman Baths that have been excavated since the late 1870s. It's a wonderful site with ancient and modern mysteries. "Biding Time" is the story of young Frank Myers, nephew of his namesake who was MIA in Vietnam. Geared to a young adult audience, "Biding Time" has appeal for all. It was one of five finalists in the National Press Club's 1993 fiction contest, the club's first.

Elaine belongs to several book clubs and is a regular attendee at the Midwest Writers Workshop in Muncie, Indiana and Magna Cum Murder. She has studied writing at the University of Maryland, Georgetown University School of Continuing Education, the Writer's Center of Bethesda, Maryland, and the University of Iowa Summer Writing Festival.

Elaine was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Maryland. She moved to the Midwest in the mid-1990s and met her husband in a writers' group in an Iowa library. She and her husband, Jim Larkin, live in Illinois. To learn more, visit her web site at www.elaineorr.com or www.elaineorr.blogspot.com. You can email her at elaineorr55@yahoo.com.
