Book Description

A Jesse Parker Mystery February 2, 2010
The debut of a brand-new mystery series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Ranger's Apprentice novels.

Ex-Denver police detective Jesse Parker has returned home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to spend the winter working ski patrol and forgetting about his past. But a killer has other ideas. It begins when a skier is found brutally murdered. Local Sheriff Lee Torrens asks her old friend to help out with the investigation, and Jesse finds himself reluctantly dragged back into a world of violence and death.

As Jesse and Lee work together, the memories of what they felt for each other long ago resurface- even as a madman strikes again and again, leaving no clue or trace as to identity or motive. Because for the killer, there are more important things to do than lead the authorities on...

About the Author

John Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia hoping to be a writer. It wasn’t until he wrote a highly uncomplimentary poem about a senior executive at the agency he worked, however, that his talent was revealed. It turned out one of the company directors agreed with John’s assessment of the executive, and happily agreed to train John in copywriting.

After writing advertising copy for the next two decades, John teamed with an old friend to develop a television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which went on to air for eight years.

John began writing Ranger’s Apprentice for his son, Michael, ten years ago, and is still hard at work on the series. He currently lives in the suburb of Manly, Australia, with his wife. In addition to their son, they have two grown daughters and four grandsons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun ski-town mystery!, March 23, 2010

While on a ski trip, this was recommended by a neighbor. It was a fun, serial killer/cop mystery. It started a little slow, but picked up speed. I couldn't put it down by the end. (However, you won't want to get on a gondola alone again--even in the daylight! Trust me!)

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable police procedural, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Storm Peak (A Jesse Parker Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
In July 2003, Denver police detectives Jesse Parker and Tony Vetano were on a drug bust assignment when a DPD black and white patrol car stopped. All hell broke out, but by the time the bullets stopped flying Tony was dead from one of Jesse's bullets. Exonerated, he quit the force anyway and came home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where he obtains a ski patrol position.

In Steamboat Springs Routt County Sheriff Lee Torrens needs help with a particularly brutal homicide as she knows she is out of her league. Although well aware of why Jesse quit the police force and personally knowing why he left town several years ago., Lee asks her friend to help with the investigation into the stabbing murder of thirty-four year old Alexander Howell. The former cop and the sheriff work together as more homicides occur and their feelings for one another as teens remain as strong as it did then.

This is an enjoyable police procedural with a simmering romantic subplot that enhances the inquiry, but never intrudes on the serial murder case. Lee is a wonderful dedicated Sheriff while Jesse has battle fatigue stress disorder coping with issues that he knows will never close. Although maniacal serial killers have flooded the market, sub-genre fans will appreciate this strong Rocky Mountains whodunit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great new series from Flanagan, March 27, 2010
This review is from: Storm Peak (A Jesse Parker Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jesse Parker is a cop returning to his roots after a tragic incident. He returns to the mountains and of course an incident happens that requires his special skills.

I had never read Flanagan before but picked it up for a two for one deal with his new book Avalanche. I found it entertaining and well worth the price. The action is steady and would you believe realistic. There was no super heroics just good believable action. I finished the book in a day and then started on Avalance and it was again a good read. Well worth the time to read and a good series to follow.
