5.0 out of 5 stars BACK COVER REVIEW
Seventeen-year-old Domine thought she was alone in the world when her guardian and only relative, Great-Uncle Henry Farriday, died; so she was rather daunted when she learned that Great-Uncle Henry had consigned her to the care of the unknown James Mannering until she was eighteen.

She was no less daunted when she actually met James and went to stay with him...

1971 print back cover: Domine was surprised to find that far from being alone after the death of her guardian, Great Uncle Henry Farriday, she had been consigned to the unknown James Mannering. She was rather daunted by the prospect. She was no less daunted when she went to stay with James and his mother at their home in Yorkshire. For James Mannering was only thirty-seven and very attractive. And he had already had several equally attractive women vying for his attention!

MY THOUGHTS: The beginning of the book seemed to be interesting, but it deteriorated after that. It was just hard to read for me. I noticed that most of Anne Mathers super old books written in the 70's, most of the heroines smoked. Didn't really like that. Maybe that's how it was back then. I felt the story didn't really flow. James, the hero seemed to be coming and going so I couldn't really see the attraction/love he had for Domine. Same with Domine. I just didn't see the chemistry between them. This is another one of those almost 20 years older age gap books. Oh and there is a spanking of the heroine in this book. So so book for me. Will likely not read again.

5.0 out of 5 stars BACK COVER REVIEW, February 16, 2007

Seventeen-year-old Domine thought she was alone in the world when her guardian and only relative, Great-Uncle Henry Farriday, died; so she was rather daunted when she learned that Great-Uncle Henry had consigned her to the care of the unknown James Mannering until she was eighteen.

She was no less daunted when she actually met James and went to stay with him and his mother in their home in Yorkshire. For James was only thirty-seven and a very attractive man, with what seemed like a harem of equally attractive women vying for his attention - and soon Domine found herself unwillingly joining their number.

But in the face of all that competition, how could she imagine that he would ever see her as anything but a child?

Description from the book back cover:

When her guardian and only relative, Great-Uncle Henry Farriday, died, Domine Grainger was rather daunted to learn that he had arranged for her to be looked after by the unknown James Mannering until she reached the age of eighteen. Still, that was only six months away, Domine consoled herself - not knowing that they were to be the most difficult six months of her life ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Guardian Forever, December 20, 2001
This was a very sweet romance that I enjoyed. Young 17 year old Domine was orphaned at a very early age but was put through school by a rich old man who seemed to be fond of her. After he died, she had to leave her convent school and was thrust in the home of James, her new guardian. Although 20 years older than herself, she still found him very attactive, as he did her. But he fought his feelings for as long as possible, until neither could deny their love anymore. A pleasant story, although a bit boring and stale in places, and sometimes Ms. Mather was a bit hard to understand where she was going with some scenes and plot lines. But over all, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes romance of a lighter flavor.
