5.0 out of 5 stars Hey! Ho! Let's Go!, November 16, 2000
This review is from: Storm the Streets (Audio CD)
Wow. I remember going to the cd store in 1997 and seeing two Riverdales cds. "Hmmm" I thought to myself...."they're on Lookout! records and they look pretty cool". Well, for 3 years I didn't think about them until I found out they sounded an ungodly amount like the ramones, one of my favorite bands. So, I checked them out, and sure enough, they rocked. Storm the Streets is a great, solid album that I don't even own, but am obsessed with it already. I do have there first one which rocks as well, but Storm the Streets seems so much more structered and well-produced(judging by the songs i've heard). Ever heard the Huntingtons? The Huntingtons are a huge rip-off of The Riverdales....they sound exactly like them. I really like the Huntingtons, but the Riverdales get more respect because they came first. So fans of Screeching Weasel, Huntingtons, Queers, and of course The Ramones, will enjoy this album

The Riverdales not only strom the streets, but storm the world as well!
Another Great effort by this amazing band.
Each track confronts you like a blitzkrieg.
Ramones like music and songs come at you one after another.
This band never fails to give it their all.
Every track is a true gem.
Do yourself a favor and check out their entire catalog.
Absolutley fantastic music!!
A+++++

3.0 out of 5 stars What happened?, November 23, 2006
This review is from: Storm the Streets (Audio CD)
Okay, I loved the first Riverdales record. Sure, there was no way it could have been as good as the early, perfect, Ramones records, but it was a truly fun tribute that for the most part captured the reasons why we love the Ramones. Some of the songs (Rehabilitated, Plan 13) even carried that "dark lyrical content masked by fun energy and mood" thing that made the Ramones so great in the first place.

But this one, sure it sounds like the Ramones what with the three chord buzzsaw guitaring and all (like their last album, a lot of these songs are made up entirely of A, D, and E), but what happened to the song writing? About a third of this record sounds like school yard chants. Don't believe me? Look:

Dynamole: "Dynamole sees everything alright/Dynamole sees everything at night/Dynamole sees everything okay/Dynamole sees everything at day"

Boy In The Plastic Bubble: "B-O-Y in the plastic bubble/Wet his bed, now he is in trouble/Now he can't do anything at all/Now he can't play with his rubber ball."

What were these guys thinking? I know Ben Weasel gets the Ramones, he's done nothing but Ramones influenced music for how many years now, and on the Riverdales debut he did pen more than a few songs that really would have made great Ramones tunes. But in no way shape or form would the Ramones have ever written anything along the lines of "I'm not mentally retarded, mentally retarded, mentally retarded!" Some of these songs sound like tracks that Screeching Weasel were to embarassed to record under their name, so Ben used them for the Riverdales.

I guess I shouldn't bash Storm The Streets too much though, there still are some great Riverdales songs here (Make Way, Riverdale Stomp, Blood On The Ice), and plenty are okay, even if they're nothing special. But there's too much on here that either sounds the same or has terrible, too-stupid, third grader lyrics. But this band is supposed to be a Ramones tribute, not a Queers tribute.

Its not unlistenable, but pick up their debut (great album!) or their third one, Phase 3 (another great album), becuase they are both better than this one.
