Storm Warning,

This review is from: Storm Warning: Whether global recession, terrorist threats, or devastating natural disasters, these ominous shadows must bring us back to the Gospel. (Hardcover)
Storm Warning by Billy Graham immediately drew my attention, as I am interested in anything that has to do with the end times. As a huge fan of the Left Behind series, I was excited to read Billy Graham's take on the various Storms (not merely the storms that are found in nature) that are occurring in the world today and compare them to the book of Revelations.
It's important to note that this book was originally published in 1992 but it has been updated to include some of the most concerning issues which occurred between 1992 and now such as Hurricane Katrina, the economic situation facing Americans, and the various terrorist events that have been occurring. It's interesting that many of the issues which were relevant to the apocalypse in the 90s have become that much more commonplace in the year 2010. I liked the personal aspects he put into the book such as his daughter's experience with a hurricane in Florida and his childhood relationship with storms when living on a farm. I found the four horseman explanations very interesting, as I never really studied them that in-depth, especially in relation to situations that are currently occurring. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I didn't feel as if the writing was difficult to comprehend, and I was very interested to hear how the times we are currently living in can relate to the book of Revelations. This was the first book I ever read by Billy Graham, and to be honest, I was a little nervous to read one of his books thinking the analysis would be hard for me to comprehend, but as I said before, I easily understood the concepts and enjoyed the book from start to finish. In the future, I will definitely be reading more of his works. Storm Warning by Billy Graham,
This review is from: Storm Warning: Whether global recession, terrorist threats, or devastating natural disasters, these ominous shadows must bring us back to the Gospel. (Hardcover)
Storm Warning by Billy Graham is a well-written overview of the problems of the world today including terrorism, natural disasters, economic crisis, and conflicts that we see in today's headlines. Graham relates these storms to the Christian life. He tells of the coming apocalypse, giving his insights on the four horsemen from the book of Revelation.
This book is a revision of the original book from 1992. This was an easy book to read. It was interesting and held my attention through each chapter. Graham tells of personal situations and relates them to current and upcoming events. Graham covers cults and the ways they deceive including spiritual deceptions and the cult of self, giving thoughts and advice on each point. He shows from Scripture the importance of and how to be an over-comer. My favorite parts of the book are Graham's treatment of the signs of the times and the coming apocalypse. He treats horseman separately, giving examples of how each will affect the world. He finishes the book with the return of Jesus to Earth, ending the reign of Satan. I recommend this book. It is insightful on the signs of the times and shows just how close we are to the end. He goes on to show that we can make it through any storm with God on our side. Five out of five stars! Storm Warning Urges Christians To Be Alert,
By Cafe Lily (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Storm Warning: Whether global recession, terrorist threats, or devastating natural disasters, these ominous shadows must bring us back to the Gospel. (Hardcover)
Storm Warning by Billy Graham, is newly revised and updated from the original edition which was written in 1992 and published in June 1995. It also includes a new foreword by Billy Graham's son, Franklin Graham.
Storm Warning focuses on the anxiety and fear that has been sweeping our nation for many years and how the headlines (past and present) line up with Biblical prophecies. Graham talks about the state of our nation and world, the current recession, terrorist activities, natural disasters and how these and other "signs of the times" should be causing Christians to wake up and be on high alert. As I read this book, I could sense the urgency in Graham's writing and his concern with spreading the Gospel before the return of Christ. As you would expect from Billy Graham, the salvation message is all through this book. He repeatedly stresses that peace and eternal security are NOT available, apart from a relationship with Jesus Christ. Although this book isn't heavy on eschatology (the study of end times) nor does it debate the various beliefs on the rapture and tribulation, Graham does explain the significance of the four horsemen mention in the book of Revelation, as well as the signs of the end times, the Apocalypse and more. Graham makes it very clear that although various political leaders are calling for "peace" - there will not be peace in the world. In fact, Graham warns his readers that according to scripture things are most likely going to get worse before the return of Christ. In spite of such dismal news - Graham stresses that our hope comes from the message of the Gospel, the God of mercy with whom we must have a relationship. If you know someone who is searching and open to the message of the Gospel, this book could be a very good resource.

*****
This book was originally published as "Approaching Hoofbeats" in 1985. Then it was updated and revised as the first edition of "Storm Warning" in 1992. This current version is completely revised and updated to discuss and reflect upon current events and how they relate to the end times, to the four horsemen of Revelation, and to the Christian's life. It is interwoven with stories from Billy Graham's life and reflections upon world events that he has lived through, and as such, is unique. Billy Graham has lived a life and had a ministry that is unmatched; what he has to say is very important. I found myself wondering if this will be the last work that he will contribute--his last words, his last message. If it were, it would be a worthy work and a good message for all Christians to hear. Reading these reflections upon Scripture, history, and our times made me really think about how what is happening is a warning of a coming storm--the final storm. Billy Graham does not write to drum up fear, but to generate hope for those who trust in Christ for their salvation. "Lord, you are a shelter from the storm" (Isaiah 25:1,4) Billy Graham poignantly writes in the introduction, "I don't even recognize the world we live in today"; I expect many people feel this way. With all of the changes, he offers a way to make sense of what is happening by relating it to Scripture. One of my favorite quotes from the book is: "...we have exchanged the love of family and home for cyberfriends and living in constant motion that robs the soul from memories--and perhaps from that still, small voice that longs to be heard"--this is something that touched me deeply. This book would be of most interest to Christians and those with an interest in the Bible, especially in applying the Bible to current events. Highly recommended. *****

A wonderful book that explains the end-time prophecies in the Bible. Explains things that we've heard about but probably don't really understand. Excellent book.

An important read for today's world,
This review is from: Storm Warning: Whether global recession, terrorist threats, or devastating natural disasters, these ominous shadows must bring us back to the Gospel. (Hardcover)
Through the centuries people have learned to understand weather patterns. We can know in advance when a dangerous storm is coming and take measures to protect our lives and property.
Just as storms such as hurricanes and tornadoes leave destruction in their wake, there are spiritual storms in our lives as well. It seems that as we humans have learned more about prediction the weather, we have forgotten how to see the patterns of destruction caused by sin. We have also forgotten how to see the patterns of destruction caused by sin. We have also turned our backs on the One who can warn us and see us through the storms of life. In this book Mr. Graham reminds us of the coming storms of judgment by a holy and righteous God. He warns us that God has long predicted the judgment of mankind. It is only God's love and mercy that delay the storm of justice that is coming. I can't say that I enjoyed this book -- it is too truthful for that -- and very often, the truth hurts. However, this is a very good book that many people need to read and to heed. I received a copy of this from Thomas Nelson Publishing to review.

This has turned out to be one of the best books I have ever purchased.
It has not only answered many questions that I have had for years but it has brought great awareness to my outlook on the world we are now living in. So many times in our lives we have been asked if there were anyone on this earth that you could spend a day with who would it be..........my answer without a flick of an eye would be Billy Graham. I am getting older and want more than anything to be what God put me on this earth to be. I only wish that I had not waited so long in "Getting it". I love the fact that in this book Mr. Graham does not beat around the bush, he tells it the way it is.........gets to the point and demands your attention. I would recomend everyone that walks this earth, to read this book...NOW!!! Ange

Storm Warning- a good reminder for the believer,

This review is from: Storm Warning: Whether global recession, terrorist threats, or devastating natural disasters, these ominous shadows must bring us back to the Gospel. (Hardcover)
I recently had the chance to read Billy Graham's updated version of Storm Warning. Originally written in 1992, Graham has taken the same concepts and applied current events (current economic crisis, 9/11, Iran, and more) to the equation. If you are looking for a play by play direct correlation to current events to Revelation and the end times, this is not the book for you. Most of those books are mere speculation anyways. What Graham has done is used the moments that seem 'end times' in our current or even recent past and shown the importance of being prepared as Christ Followers. Graham focuses his writing on what Christians can do to be prepared for Jesus' second coming, how they can protect themselves from the dangers of this world (such as cults and other spiritual movements), and instilling a sense of peace and joy knowing that as Christ followers we serve the ultimate king, the winner of it all. We don't need to worry about what is 'about to happen', but can find peace knowing that on the other side of the storm, there is great peace. As Christians, we also have the opportunity to be powerful influences during these storms. Rather than sit and wait in fear of Revelation to come to fruition, we should be eagerly searching out ways to possibly 'slow it' as Elijah did and to find moments to share Christ with others. One of my favorite passages of the book was on page 267, "May we not miss His (Jesus) presence. May we not be found with our lamps dimmed. May we be found waiting, watching, and working for His glory." Whether Revelation has, is, or is going to soon reveal itself, my job is to focus on serving my Lord and be ready during these storm warnings so that I can withstand the wind and rain and enjoy the after-storm glory of eternity. While a rather quick read, Graham's writing style is rather dry and hard to sometimes get motivated about. I did find the book picking up and more enjoyable about 2/3 of the way through. While not a poolside read, I think this would be an appropriate book for any believer who is using private study and devotional time focusing on the future and current events and how they relate.

First off, I'm Mandy, not Nathan. Our Amazon account has his name on it, but I'm the one reviewing this. These opinions are mine, not his.
STORM WARNING is a reprint of a book Billy Graham actually wrote about 10 years ago, but what he covers in this book is just as important a topic today as it was then. If anything, it may be more important. In this book, Billy Graham looks at the crazy things that are happening today in light of Biblical truths. He points out that, although so many bad things are happening right now, we can still have hope in Christ. Billy Graham has an amazing gift for explaining difficult material in a way just about anybody can understand. STORM WARNING is no different. Although it has taken me a long time to get around to reviewing this book (sorry, BookSneeze!) with everything that has been going on in my own life lately, I would recommend this to anyone who is looking at the world around us and wondering what in the world is going on. Once you actually start reading it, it really doesn't take too long to make it through. Billy Graham blends together today's headlines and Revelations, something other people try to do but not everyone can accomplish. Excellent!,
This review is from: Storm Warning: Whether global recession, terrorist threats, or devastating natural disasters, these ominous shadows must bring us back to the Gospel. (Hardcover)
Many see Billy Graham as a cornerstone of Christian evangelism and faith in America, but yet, I confess, this is the first Billy Graham book I have ever read. I have read some of his daughter, Anne Graham Lotz's, writings and her talent as a writer is God-given and undeniable. Now I see where she gets it.
Storm Warning is aptly titled-it is a warning of the coming storm, or even more specifically, the coming hoofbeats of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. As Graham states himself, "The purpose of this book is to look into God's Word for the answers-to review the state of the world in troubled times and to examine the circumstances confronting us today in the light of the only reliable standard: the Bible" (p. 16). In the world today, we find instability, fear, struggles, sin, a need for moral leadership, suffering, worldliness, and spiritual deceptions, to name a few. Billy Graham looks at these in light of the end times and what the Bible and much of its prophecy has to say. I was intrigued. I was drawn in. And Graham wrote and explained in such a way that I understood much of Revelation and God's warning of the end times (which is not always easy to do). Billy Graham calls us, through John's revelations, to overcome (being lukewarm, sin, lack of passion, darkness, idol worship), to stand (on Truth, before the nations, before God), and to "return to the things of the Lord" (p. 106). And in true Billy Graham style, he has woven the gospel message in very clearly throughout the book. Always the evangelist! Chapter 11, "The Cult of Self," is alone worth the price of the book! And as Graham ends Storm Warning, we see a final warning and a final encouragement. "As we review the history from the beginning of time, God's voice has been heard through His servants and it has fallen on deaf ears and hardened hearts" (p. 259). But after the judgment, the "white horse" of Revelation 19 will bring peace and an end to all pain and suffering, and that gives me great hope. I, without any hesitation, gave this book 5 stars. I am a Book Review Blogger for BookSneeze. |
