Originally purchased this item in bunker colour sometime ago when they came in sixpacks, used with a 7' rod, braided line ( florocarbon leader ) and a spinning reel. The question was poised if these worked in saltwater; Yes, and are absolutly deadly on bluefish and other predatory species in there, but keep in mind the toothy species will take a toll on these lures, with each fish or even each strike accounting for one lure. Actually, due to the relatively low price of these lures as compared to others, one can afford to purchase several different sizes/patterns to better prepare for different species and conditions, and stay in the game after many of them are chewed up and destroyed. Just remember, once these hit the water to keep a tight line and hold on. If a school of bluefish are around, the action will be fast and furious. Hold onto your rod carefully, as sometimes these are snatched out of the hands of the unaware or inattentive by the larger fish that come out of seemingly nowhere.
The lures swim straight and true, hook up, even vibrating their tails on freefall through the water column, and will sit on the bottom in an upright position. More than once a large fluke ( summer flounder ) has engulfed this lure and immediately hooked itself. The bottom of the bay seemed to move as these fish attempted to dislodge the Rapala VMC hook, but to no avail. Striped bass, weakfish ( seatrout ), and redfish will also attack this lure when given a chance, if there are no bluefish in the vicinity, as the latter somehow seem to get to this bait before any other species can strike. Once the salt impregnated PVC material is bitten and ripped up, the internal lead weight with the VMC hook can be cut out and used as an impromptu jig for plastic worms and eels on the bottom, so it is not a total loss. Though these presently come in a three pack, the new design should be at least the equal if not superior to the original 6 pack lures, and for the price, are still an excellent value. Casting, vertical jigging, or slow trolling will all prove the versitility and effectivness of these lures, leaving few if any anglers disappointed. To make a long story short, these swim shads cast well, swim straight, and catch fish. That latter point alone justifies their acquistion and use.

These lures come in a three pack, and the number represents the length in inches (4" in this case). Solidly constructed with a sharp hook, the lure also has good coloring and a realistic swim pattern as it is reeled in. Have to watch for shallow areas, where the lures can become fairly easily snagged and are sometimes difficult to retrieve. I lost one in a smaller size to an underwater obstruction. While I haven't used this specific size for fishing yet, as I haven't been able to get out to an area appropriate for this size lure, the smaller one landed me a good size bass easily; although, the reel was straining to bring the bass in. Better than many lures I've purchased in the past, and definitely well worth the money.
