Still Loving You,
By Christopher L. Behr "Chris Behr" (Starkville, Mississippi United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Storm (Audio CD)
This album came out in late 1991, at an unfortunate time. I say unfortunate because this was at the same time Nirvana hit it big, signalling the end of melodic hard rock and ushering in the era of so-called "alternative rock." My question is this: if it all sounds the same, how is it an alternative? Anyway, HERE is your alternative. This band was formed by ex-Journey keyboardist and Santana co-founder Gregg Rolie about ten years after he split Journey and features Steve Smith (drums) and Ross Valory (bass), also from that band. Added to the mix were vocalist Kevin Chalfant and guitarist Josh Ramos, and the results were spectacular: "I've Got A Lot To Learn About Love" and "Show Me The Way" were Top 10 singles. Unfortunately, the song chosen as the third single was "Still Loving You", which is a really good song but not Top 40 material; personally, I would have chosen "You're Gonna Miss Me" (the best song on the album) or "Call Me" as the next single, but hindsight is always 20/20.The song failed to chart. In any event, the band toured with Bryan Adams and then dissipated until reuniting with new drummer Ron Wikso for the release of their second (and apparently last) album in 1996, titled "Eye of the Storm." That album is spectacular and highly recommended, but has unfortunately been unavailable for several years as a new release. I am extremely pleased to see THIS album available again, though, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Journey, Foreigner or Spooky Tooth.

This is one of my most favorite cd's I own. I bought the tape back in 1991 when it first came out, then was lucky enough to find the CD in 1995. If you like Journey, then you will love this. There is actually a 12th track called "Can't Live Without Your Love" and it is one of my favorite songs of all time-and the BEST song on the CD. And to this day when I play these songs, they still do not sound dated at all-not bad for songs that are nearly 13 yrs old!!!

A solid album,
This review is from: The Storm (Audio CD)
This self-titled debut album from the Storm was released in 1991. It consists of 12 tracks. The lead vocals are split between Kevin Chalfant and keyboardist Gregg Rolie--both provide enjoyable singing performances. The album's material is in a pop rock musical direction. I find the songwriting to be worthy, the musicianship to be tight, and the sound quality to be satisfying. My favorite songs are "You Keep Me Waiting," "I've Got a Lot to Learn About Love," and "Show Me the Way." "I've Got a Lot to Learn About Love" has a winning refrain. The plaintive "Show Me the Way" supplies a nice chorus. Examples of other compositions that I like are "In the Raw" and "Can't Live Without Love." "In the Raw" is fun and sports a captivating refrain, while the somber, pretty "Can't Live Without Love" displays a charming chorus and a gratifying keyboard melody from Rolie. As for the CD booklet, it includes the song lyrics and a black-and-white photo of the band. The disc is almost 57 minutes. This is a recommendable album.

In the spirit of Journey, and Giant the Storm is Greatness,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Storm (Audio CD)
In the spirit of Journey and Giant the Storm spins out Melodic Guitar Greatness with Ballads that will blow you away. They pickup where Journey left off with Show me the Way, I've got alot to learn etc.. its a well rounded albumn with just a great sound and extradornary music experience. A great end to the Big Hair Band Era of the late 80s Early 90s. All that was great about rock and roll.

Excellent Journey-style AOR,
By
This review is from: The Storm (Audio CD)
Just as melodic rock was enjoying its last major burst of mainstream popularity, a new AOR group put together by former Journey members Greg Rolie, Steve Smith and Kevin Chalfant alongside guitar hotshot Josh Ramos (later of Hardline) hit the scene with this 1991 self-titled debut. To no one's surprise, The Storm sounded a lot like Journey. The Storm's debut is about as good as a pure AOR album can be. This is smooth, uncomplicated, Journey-style melodic rock that's all about gorgeous melodies, soaring vocals and nothing but love songs. The upbeat "I've Got a Lot To Learn About Love" was a radio hit at the time, and "I Want You Back" and "You're Gonna Miss Me" really should have been. Chalfant's vocals definitely bring to mind Steve Perry, and the songs with Rolie singing have an old school Journey vibe. It's just an outstanding AOR album overall. The Storm managed to release a follow-up (Eye of the Storm) in 1995, but that was pretty much it for the band. Grunge came in and radio closed the door to this kind of music. If you're a fan of laid-back AOR along the lines of Valentine, Street Talk and of course Journey, The Storm is a must-have album. PS - Both of The Storm's albums could use a proper remastered reissue. Hello, Rock Candy?

The Editorial Review is incorrect above,

There's no female in this band. I have no idea what the editorial review is talking about. It's 3 members of the band Journey including Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory, Steve Smith. The other 2 guys are Kevin Chalfant, and Josh Ramos. If you like Journey, you'll really like this disc. It's actually 12 tracks.

I first heard The Storm, driving in my car going to a highschool dance. Of course the name of the song was "Ive got alot to learn about love" Ever since that night I have never stopped listening to them. Every song seems to penetrate deep into ones soul, with the incredible vocals by Kevin and Rolie as well as wonderfully written lyrics. For all those hopeless romantics out there, you will beable to relate to this cd and will remind you of that special person who changed your life. I strongly recommend this cd as well as their rare second one.
