5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!
A real page-turner! The story is simple - a Russian agent hijacks a US space shuttle and the mission goes wrong, and the US and USSR have to race to bring down the shuttle, using any means at their disposal! This book features everything - Star Wars weapons technology, an experimental space fighter project which might be quite feasible one day, a dnagerous shuttle...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!, April 13, 1999
A real page-turner! The story is simple - a Russian agent hijacks a US space shuttle and the mission goes wrong, and the US and USSR have to race to bring down the shuttle, using any means at their disposal! This book features everything - Star Wars weapons technology, an experimental space fighter project which might be quite feasible one day, a dnagerous shuttle launch, Stealth bombers on a mission into Russia and a spectacular apperance by the highest-flying plane in the world, the SR-71 Blackbird under attack by Russian air defences! As the story unfolds, so do some exceptional plot twists and a detailed but easy-to-read insight into how the Russian mission to steal the shuttle came about. On the whole, this book is often similar in various aspects to Dale Brown's SILVER TOWER, with the space weapons ideas, but STORMING INTREPID definitely leaves Dale Brown standing on the ground! I would give this book at least 100 stars but the scale won't let me. Oh well. The US vs Russia angle may be Cold War-era, but this electrifying thriller is still a superb read. One I'll definitely read again in a few months, and this I'd recommend to any technothriller fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shuttle Hijacked?? What'll we do?? We ENJOY!!, December 13, 2000
This was my first introduction to Payne Harrison, and it was so good I have since picked up everything else by this talented author--who doesn't seem to be tied to writing just techno-thrillers...

I felt the idea of hijacking the Shuttle was a clever one, however since I had not heard of Payne Harrison, I was reserved and grabbed a copy of this book... . I found out quickly enough that this was written by a talented author who had a major future in the techno-thriller genre, should he continue to write in that particular field. I loved every moment of this book. I can't TELL you how ANGRY I was at my son when he knocked over a cup of water and soaked my copy of 'Storming Intrepid'...it took several days to dry it out, and it was hopelessly bloated out-of-shape, but I was about three-quarters through it and I was NOT going to be stuck without a resolution--which, I might add was far from predictable.

This wasn't simply a techno-thriller, but it was a grand adventure in every sense of the word. With everything that makes a Clancy novel so exciting (minus the endless drone of needless details) plus the added excitement of getting a shot at going into space, I don't need to tell you that this is rocket-ride you NEED to take, and the sooner the better. I have to say that Harrisons other novels are JUST as fun, so if you found this one good, check his other books out, too--you will be VERY glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, April 11, 2006
I read this more than a decade ago and still remember it for the way it propelled you headfirst into an intricate tale of espionage and murder. Although the idea of a shuttle being hijacked seems unrealistic, Harrison creates a pilot with a unpatriotic past allied to a foreign government and makes you believe in his motivations. The ending will leave you breathless. A brilliant story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Space Shuttle Techo-Thriller, February 11, 2003
This review is from: Storming Intrepid (Hardcover)
I read this book over 12 yrs ago, I was in the Tom Clancy Craze,
of reading all the techo-thrillers I could find. The cover
caught my eye, the Space Shuttle on the cover, and "Storming
Intrepid" (Guess the name of the shuttle :-)

The book is technical, believable, conspiracy theory,
personable characters, lots of action, and I just loved it.!

Have recommended it and loaned it to other techo-thriller fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Novel Worth Reading For all Cold War Fans, July 19, 2000
I remember reading this novel when I was 11 years old. I was an avid space enthuisiast and loved mostly reference books, not fiction. A friend of mine who retired from LTV gave me this book and I began to read it. I got lost in the story. It was so captivating. An American Astronaut hijacks an American Space Shuttle to ina an effort defect himself, the shuttle and the payload to the Soviet Union. Alot of the references made such as the Strategic Defense Intiative and the ASAT were of the Reagan, Gorbachev era and due to the fact that the Soviet Union broke apart and the Cold War ended left these programs non-existant. But still, this novel is an interesting piece of fiction. I am currently reading this novel again for the first time in 10 years and am lost more deeply in the plot than I was before. Payne Harrison is an excellent novelest and I find this book his best. Check it out. It is well worth it. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's edge-of-your-seat from page one until the end., June 25, 1998
By A Customer
Congratulations to Mr. Harrison's first book! A Russian sleeper agent attempts to steal a space shuttle with a "Star Wars" package. But an accident strands him in orbit. Now the U.S. and the Soviets race to bring down the "Intrepid" first. The characters are thoroughly believeable. Harrison does an incredible job of bringing them to life and making you care about them, including the Russian agent who steals the shuttle. The thrills, the twists, the turns, never stop. The climax is one of the most amazing I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Storming Intrepid A Quintessential Techno-Read, June 9, 1998
I consider myself to be fortunate enough to have an uncorrected manuscript of Storming Intrepid...Even so, there are few changes between it and the final published draft...That's good, because Storming Intrepid is one of the best books I've ever read!!

The story is tight...The technical details are precise...And the ending really satisfies...If you've read Clancy, Brown, Coonts, and Bond, you definitely need to add this one to your library. You may want to find a permanent spot for it, because it's that GOOD!!
