5.0 out of 5 stars ******GREAT RTS GAME!!!*****, July 27, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Stormrise (Video Game)
Stormrise is a very good game! The characters and their dialog are terrible, but when your past that you will have a blast playing this RTS (Real Time Strategy). Allot of people who have reviewed this game have given it a bad review because they have compared this game to command and conquer and halo wars (both great games). They need to under stand that this is so different than those two games. The games mechanics are very easy to use and the new "whip select" method I LOVE it, this allows you to easily and quickly change from one unit to the next by just slapping the analog stick in the direction of the unit you want to command. They also allow you to use indirect command to allow you to advance with allot of units instead of one at a time.

Graphics- this game has a good amount of detail for a RTS, the walls the characters and the environment all look really well and this is the first RTS game I have played where the building are actually with in a realistic scale to the troops and vehicles.

Game play- The game is so easy to just get lost in the power of commanding your army and hours will fly by as you build your nodes with turrets, shields, refineries, and warp gates. Then use the energy these nodes create to buy infantry, elite soldiers, sentinel snipers, Combat vehicles, sentinel scouts, tanks, aircrafts, and commanders in power suites. As you begin to build your army you want to keep control of your nodes, have snipers on the roofs, and sentinel surrounding the parameter to keep a solid fortress. Then have your troops advance on a enemy node to capture it and turn it to your advantage until all node are yours. This can be very fun as you have the ability to switch to any of your units in a flick of the analog stick just as you see the enemy has a huge army storming its way to retake the nodes and then you have a real battle on your hands. The only thing that is a little bothersome is the camera control but its a minor problem.

Sound- One of my most favorite things is the music. As the battle heats up the sick guitar driven metal music kicks in making you wants to tear apart the enemy and take all they have. Sound fx are decent and are nothing that stands out from what I can tell so far.

Multiplayer- This game allows for you to take your domination online to your friends or strangers which is a very tense experience because you now have what could be a lesser, equal, or greater opponet(s) against you so you will never know until your teams collide in combat. For practice you can play skirmish mode were you can play the AI in any map or setting just like online.

Overall- I purchased this item brand new for $30 against what all the reviewers gave this game and I am so glad I did, this will be a game that I will enjoy for a long time. If you don't have this game, pick it up ( Its only $30!!!) and you will have a very good RTS for the console side of this genre. I give this gave five stars because I believe that a 4 is too low. out of 10 I give this game a very solid 8.5

AWESOME GAME-8.5/10 *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Give Stormrise a chance, April 4, 2009

If you give Stormrise a chance you'll find its a very enjoyable rts. I like its slower pace and huge environments with battles taking place on tops of towering skyscrapers all the way deep down to the depths of underground parking garages, this make Stormrise an excellent addition to anyones gaming collection.
It really adds more strategy and makes the player fight for every inch of ground to advance so don't expect short battles or cheap tactics like "rushing" to work in this game because you'll end up dead.
The graphics are very nice and right up there with Endwar, but everything's on a much larger scale in this game. No more tiny little buildings not much bigger than a tank, cityscapes have finally been done perfectly in Stormrise with its huge towering skyscrapers...
The game has a few flaws but nothing that can't be patched later.
The controls aren't game breaking, infact they are very similar to Endwar to some extent.
Stormrise is ambitious, innovative and alot of fun,I recommend buying this game.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for modern StarCraft, March 31, 2009

This game tries to bring up to date the starcraft/warcraft type games from the PC to the PS3 platform. I have played it for a while. The controls take getting used to and some maps are hard to navigate. The action sometimes happens so fast you never get a chance to respond - you can be fighting on multiple fronts and miss a lot of things. This means you are relegated to setting up strong defenses and only sending out one sortie at a time.

The plot line sounds fantastic but I would have enjoyed cinematic transitions more and more development of the plot.

I give it 3.5 stars but if you are a die hard starcraft fan you might consider it a 4 star title

5.0 out of 5 stars First of its kind, April 14, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This game is first of its kind in PS3. I been so bored with the same old first person shooting type game, and that's what PS3 keeps making. This game is definitely a change. Its true, this game definitely needs some improvement on the control, but what do you expect with RTS on a controller. The map is really big, and fighting at every corner, I think its really awesome.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible., January 9, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

I usually don't have much to complain about in a game, but this is purely awful. Most people's main complaint is the "clumsy interface." It's true, the interface takes a lot of getting used to. However, even then, individual unit AI is so pathetic it's saddening. units will cancel special attack and defense modes on their own, run up to enemies without fighting, and occasionally teleport around the map like First Person Shooter lag. I've also noticed that one of the units, supposedly making a large explosion, has no graphics when attacking and things under it simply die mysteriously. Honestly, I have my doubts that they even finished this game before releasing it.

My husband loves real time strategy games, but this is one that I haven't seen him play much. He played Halo Wars like crazy, but this one failed to interest him, I think. He wouldn't admit it to me, but I think this might have been a little bit of a dud.

1.0 out of 5 stars A possibly good game hampered by horrid controls!, September 3, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Stormrise (Video Game)
I love RTS games and have been playing them for a long time. Command & Conquer, Supreme Commander and many, many others.

Stormrise has a great concept and decent storyline, but the control scheme will really frustrate you. The developers created a unit selection system known as "Whip Select", which probably looked good on paper during development but they couldn't quite nail the execution.

My biggest complaint for this game is just the controls and horrible camera control. I should not have to feel like I'm fighting with the controls when all I want to do is command a unit to walk up a series of ramps. Expect to babysit every single unit while giving commands.

I'd say rent this game or wait till it comes down in price.

1.0 out of 5 stars terrible game and shame on you SEGA, April 5, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Stormrise (Video Game)
When I first saw and heard about this game it sounded so promising. When I finished playing it after a mammoth session, i only had one thought. "What were they thinking?", and not in a good way either.
Real Time Strategy games (RTS) have never really worked on console, and sadly this is another failed attempt. The only really good things about this game are the presentation and the unique 'whip-select' control method. Sadly every other aspect of the game from graphics to sound to the diabolical AI is a real let down. Dont expect a Command & Conquer or even a Halo Wars. Because this game is not in the same ball park as either of those. Probably best to avoid this one. Maybe give it a rental to try it out. Unfortunately I hated it.
