5.0 out of 5 stars SHIMMERING, MAJESTIC, POETIC, and LOVELY!, June 13, 2004

"Storms Dressed As Stars" finds Australian band Gersey in an inspired rush of overwhelmingly beautiful songs put forth with imaginative and dramatic playing. The moods conveyed through the poetic (in a subtle but lifting way) lyrics and the ebbs and flows of the playing bring to mind the richness of such Aussie gems as The Triffids; however, Gersey inhabit a world of their own- shimmering (almost shoegazey) guitars, lovely female co vocals, melodies that at once seem earth born and sky bound. The best metaphor is to wake up in a park by the lake, slightly dazed and a bit hungover and then slowly have your senses awakened to the nature around you...for all the overtired feeling in your body, the heart lifts and something good unfolds. Well, that's how I experienced the cd in Minneapolis last week one morning. I highly recommend this, the peak (so far) of a swoon inducingly brilliant band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely gorgeous music. Buy it., July 21, 2003
This review is from: Storms Dressed As Stars (Audio CD)
This is such a wonderful album - graceful, layered, subtle, yet soaring, introspective music that just slithers into your soul. Terrific individual songs, but stronger yet as a complete work, weaving themes of longing, loss, pain, melancholy, and hope throughout, creating a swirling, shimmering, incredibly beautiful, intoxicating release. Especially perfect for late night listening. All of the allure of your favorite narcotic, with none of the drawbacks. Buy this cd. You will not regret it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good things, April 20, 2004

This is the latest soft rock outfit from Melbourne, Australia. Like other bands such as Coldplay and Turin Brakes, they have been championed by Nic Harcourt and his "mornings become eclectic" radio shows on KCRW. Gersey is definitely come down music after the party and too much drugs. It's music to relax to and wonder why you are wide awake at 6am after three days of no sleep. They blend angular guitars and sensible melodies. Most of their songs are about desire and escaping to foreign lands. The best song here is probably "Trouble With Jonah" which is like a minimalist Badly Drawn Boy having coffee with Julee Cruise. Gersey are much like Damien Rice: they are dying to plant a flag in America. Why this is, who knows? The earlier record, Hope Springs, is probably better though much the same. Most people are just drunk off their ass and are wearing baseball caps and waiting to smoke a joint with the next Liars release. All the best of luck to Gersey for their delicate balance.
