Book Description

March 25, 2000 Trade Editions
How the German stormtroopers developed their battle winning infantry tactics was a mystery to the Allies. Far ahead of their time, the tactics and techniques of these elite infantrymen of 1918 resembled those used by the 2nd Para at Goose Green in 1982. Stormtroopers were fit and aggressive, earning distinctions -- and extra rations -- through proven bravery on the field, and their training placed the emphasis on individual initiative. This book provides a concise guide to an extraordinary group of fighters whose name remained associated with victory long after the German defeat.

This is an excellent, tightly written history of German infantry shock troops that were developed at the end of World War 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction, February 3, 2009
This review is from: Stormtrooper (Osprey Trade Editions) (Paperback)
If you're interested in simply learning more about a subject which is often glossed over in histories of the First World War, or worse, misrepesented, then this book would serve well. Drury addresses the weapons used by the Stormtroops, how they were organized and what their role was within the German armies in the West. Well-written, with great photographs and artistic renderings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview of Stormtroopers in 64 pages, September 3, 2007

This review is from: Stormtrooper (Osprey Trade Editions) (Paperback)
This book does a very good job at introducing the reader to Stormtroopers in only 64 pages. In that short length it discusses their historical development (both institutionally and in terms of their place in German offensive military strategy), the "men" in the organization (i.e., typical background, etc.), tactics used and weapons used along with the reasons they could not bring German victory. For 64 pages (an hour or so of reading), a good introduction to the Stormtroopers of WWI.
