Editorial Reviews

Product Description
It’s twice the romance, double the sizzle in this special two-in-one edition from New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen. Here are a pair of classic contemporary novels that prove once and for all that when it comes to love, you can’t get too much of a good thing.

Stormy Vows

For a struggling actress, a private audition with a young Hollywood turk like Michael Donovan was the break of a lifetime. But Brenna Sloan refused to be intimidated by the temperamental and sensually overwhelming filmmaker, even if it did cost her the role of a lifetime. For Brenna was both far stronger—and far more vulnerable—than Michael could ever guess. And the secret that she was keeping from him would draw them more intimately together with each encounter…and threaten to drive them apart forever.

Tempest at Sea

An idealist and activist, Jane Smith stole aboard Jake Dominic’s yacht one warm Miami night as part of an antinuke protest. But in her earnestness Jane hadn’t fully considered the consequences if she got caught or that her act of principled vandalism would end with her serving as Dominic’s part-time prisoner and cabinmate. For the next two months she would accompany this successful, sexy but darkly brooding man aboard the Sea Breeze as they sailed around the Gulf of Mexico from one exotic port of call to another. Danger, close escapes, and erotic adventure await, but nothing can be more unexpected than their romantic destination.

OK books. Older books put together but I hadn't read them anyway. Would have really been upset if I had.

1.0 out of 5 stars doesn't reach its potential, October 2, 2008
I want to start by saying I LOVE Johansen's later works, but this falls short. If you like the 80s romances (innocent/ignorant virgin heroine and older, cynical, experienced, and very aggressive heros) you'll like these two stories. However, I don't like the 80s formula at all.

Ok, these books were written in the 80s and it shows. The first is storm vows and it is about an actress (Brenna) who is raising her sister's baby as her own and a filmmaker (Michael). Michael and Brenna meet when she auditions for a part and he refuses her for it for stupid reasons. He calls her later with an offer for another part and basically whisks her away after that. OK, so let's start with Michael - I HATED him. He was overbearing and obnoxious and rude. Brenna had possibilities. She was a good character sometimes, but then she would roll over for Michael. She let him take her baby away from her - Michael hired a nurse which I was fine with and then said not only was the nurse taking care of the baby but the baby wasn't allowed to spend the night with Brenna either. That was it for me - what kind of mother would stand for that? Sorry, no way someone is going to dictate to me like that; let alone a man I just met. You are not touching my child. And Michael doesn't warm up to the baby until he finds out it isn't hers - and again, Brenna let's him get away with it. Sorry, again, I would never do that to my child. To me Michael was just a bully. And Brenna was by far not my favorite character either.

The second story is Tempest at Sea, and that one wasn't great either. The heroine is an idiot and the hero is the typical 80s alpha male who thinks he can do whatever he wants and the woman will have to take it. Our hero here is one of the supporting players in the first book, and I liked him better then. Ok, just to show you the two characters - they have an encounter with a shark, and Jane isn't hurt at all, because of course Jake saves her. But Jake get 'caught by a tooth' and gets cut up a bit (unbelievable, but its fiction, so whatever). He gets on board and Jane is the one who freaks out - he ends up taking care of her after it all. I couldn't stand it.
