My son got this for his 5th birthday and loves it, but I'm not a fan.

Setup: A little complicated to put everything together but not too bad (and no batteries required - hooray!).

Play: It's a cute little chain reaction sequence based on the movie - press the pedal and Woody flies down the zipline, which makes Hamm escape from the bin, which makes the alien slide to safety behind Big Baby's back. It's terribly clever. Except Hamm and the alien are not included in this playset. Neither are Buzz and Rex, even though their pictures are prominently featured on the box. You only get Woody and Big Baby! We had to borrow toys from another playset to make it work. Stupid Mattel. But once we got it working, my son loved it and went through the stunt sequence over and over, switching it around. This is the only set he has but we like the idea that it can connect to other stunt sets.

Storage: Miserable. There are a lot of pieces and no carrying case.

This has been exactly how we imagined when we bought it. Very durable, and a fun concept too. It is neat that it can be added to other sets, and you can make a whole series of chain reactions, so it teaches planning in play, which is nice. If you just wanted to set up a playground scenario for your toys, than it can be played this way too. Highly recommend.

My son who is 4 1/2 got the whole action links set for christmas. Initially he needed help setting up the whole set, but once that happened and he saw all of it work in action, he is able to set it all up by himself now. He is the kind of kid though who can spend a lot of time working puzzles by himself, lincoln logs, and loves anything cars or trains. He has no interested in action hero type toys so this set was something different other than cars or trains that entertains him a lot. My nephew who is 8 also had a great time playing with it. I would recomend it for any kid who loves toy story 3 , between ages 4 - 9.
