The Story of a Bad Boy is one of my favorite books. It's interesting, humorous, and touching, and gives you an inside look at the life of a boy in Massachusetts in the early 1800s. I love the author's style of writing. It seems to make the story all the more humorous, and brings you back to those olden days. I also love this book because it's a true story, and this kid led a life full of adventures and mishaps. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Tom Sawyer because these two books are similar, and the two boys have the same type of mischievous personalities. Yet in spite of similarities, Bad Boy is unique because it's true.

This neat little novel is written in the tradition of Tom Sawyer, though it appeared 5 years earlier than Twain's classic. It's about all the mischief, chivalry, loyalty, and pluck of a young boy's life. Aldrich is in love with his material and revels in all the antics his characters get involved in. The snowball fight is a gem. The boyhood dialogue is excellent and rings true.

A real boyhood classic, perhaps the first realistic novel of American boyhood. Was a bit disappointed that none of the original illustrations, by A.B. Frost, were included.

I read "The Story of a Bad Boy" in the mid 1950s when I was the age of the characters in the book. The story showed me that there really wasn't much difference between boys in the 1840s and in the mid 20th century. The book ignited a passions for reading and writing in me that led to a career in news reporting and later book editing. If you don't enjoy this book then you grew up in a modern urban area playing video games and watching TV in which case there is very little hope for you anyway.

I really liked the short story. It is a fun read, no complicated underlying themes, good writing style, fun story. Nothing really special but for sure worth spending time on. Is not really long so can be finished in a east-to-west-coast flight. Although the story happens in the early 19th century boys will be boys; most people in their early forties will recognize themselves in the feelings and development of young Tom.

That is probably why I absolutely hated this book. I read it for school, and had to write a book report on it. But I couldn't find anything good to say about it. I am assuming it's due to my having been a girl, and being interested in "girl things".

The boy never actually does anything TRULY bad at all. He's just an ordinary boy, with a rash of bad luck. I found the story to be dull, monotonous, and annoying, in that nothing ever really happens. Well, things happen, but nothing that seemed to merit writing an entire book about it. I believe that a boy could possibly like this book, but if you are considering having a girl read it... please spare her the torture. There is plenty of literature available for girls. I personally will be sparing my boys as well.

We live in a world of fantacy and of real life.This book gives you a glimpse into the life of a real American boy.

The name of the story implies some good spoanking scenes. There were none in the whole book. I have no idea why this book was placed in the area of spanking stories. It was long, drawn out,really not interesting in the least.
