4.0 out of 5 stars Except for the unwieldy straps, a great toy.
Two issues you should know about before purchasing:

1. The straps are not as simple as they appear in the pictures. First, there are too many of them for younger kids to make sense of--one over each shoulder, one under each arm, one around each side of the waist. I bought this jetpack for my son's 5th birthday. He loves wearing it while standing in front of the tv, watching Toy Story on DVD. When I first opened the box, I spent about 5 minutes trying to figure the thing out, then I gave up. It took my husband at least 20 minutes to figure the straps out. But once he figured it out, he laughed at himself because he said it was obvious. Either way, from reading other reviews it doesnt seem like we're the only ones who are confused by the straps. MY biggest complaint is that this toy is ruining my walls. I finally took it away from my son and told him it was an outside toy. Imagine your child wearing this hard plastic jetback as he turns corners and runs down the hallway, the hard plastic hitting the walls as he goes. We have some chipped paint now because of it. It is a good toy, but it's a better outdoor toy.

Two issues you should know about before purchasing:

1. The straps are not as simple as they appear in the pictures. First, there are too many of them for younger kids to make sense of--one over each shoulder, one under each arm, one around each side of the waist. To get into/out of the outfit, the "belt" strap and one of the over-the-shoulder straps come apart. Problem is: the unit is then a tangled mass of straps going in every direction--impossible for a little guys to unravel when they want to put the outfit on. We tried leaving it "assembled" (leaving the belt and shoulder straps connected, even when he's not wearing it) so he could see where each strap is supposed to go, but that didn't work. If it's tight enough to wear, it's too tight to wriggle into; if it's loose enough to wriggle into, it's too loose to wear. He just got struck trying to wriggle into the outfit.

2. Also, the slack from the over-the-shoulder straps hangs down in FRONT of the "breast plate." On the model, they've solved this problem by tucking the slack neatly away behind the other straps--in real life, that doesn't work for long. You can pin one of the straps down, but the other strap has to come apart where it joins the breast plate so your child can get into/out of the outfit, as noted above. Consequently, it can't really be pinned out of the way--at least, not permanently. You just have to keep tucking it behind the breast plate and the other strap. It doesn't look nearly as tidy as the picture suggests, and doesn't stay tucked away for long.

That said, my four year-old LOVES his Buzz Wings and wears them all the time! These minor issues are much more of an annoyance to ME than they are to him.

Bottom line: younger kids will need a grown-up's help for putting on and taking off the outfit, and the straps are a more unwieldy than the pictures imply. Otherwise, a GREAT toy for your little Space Ranger.

Every time we passed this jet pack in the store, my die hard Toy Story fan would start pleading for it. As embarrassing as this was (no one--not even a mom--appreciates a gimmie kid), I couldn't helped put be charmed by the idea of this toy. After dozens and dozens of "not today" and "maybe for your birthday", and my daughter's own attempts at using household items to double for a jet pack, I caved when I saw it on Amazon, and that it would ship for free.

The straps are a little flimsy, and the wings are not movable components, but the toy has provided hours and hours of entertainment for her and my one year old who watches. You'll really want to ask yourself if you aren't going to mind your kid running around the house shouting and making electronic noises for hours at a time, but if you can hold out, the extended nap is a pretty decent pay out. With Toy Story 3 coming out, this toy will only increase in popularity and will make for an unbeatable gift for the toddler set.

These wings have been played with by three rough and tumble boys and they still look like the first day we bought them! This is a great toy. Sometimes the smaller boys need help putting them on, but once they are on they stay that way. Many backyard adventures have been had and there were no tears because buzz's wings got broken.

My son got these from Santa a year ago for Christmas. They are still going strong and my son still plays with them. I see that the price has jumped up $30+ dollars from last year to $75 so watch out for a good deal if you are looking for these.

Got these wings for my son's 4th birthday and he has a lot of fun wearing them. As others said the straps take some time to figure out and he needs help getting them on. I think he's finally figured out he has to turn side ways to get through doors but that took a few days. The wings do retract back so he wouldn't hit doors or walls but then he can't sit down and lean back with the wings like that. Would be better if the wings retracted in. Also while the sounds are great they are very loud. A friend of ours put tape over the speaker on her son's wings and that helps. Overall though we're pretty happy with this toy.

2.0 out of 5 stars ridiculous toy for intended age group, June 23, 2011
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Toy Story Basic Buzz Wing Pack (Toy)
We were not happy with this toy overall. First off, it is not a toy that a kid of the intended age can get in and out of on his own very easily. The strap system is so complicated and counterintuitive for kids. Also, Buzz's voice is so loud with no way to turn it down. Since those buttons are so close to kids' ears, I wish there was a way to turn it down. Yes, you can bend the wings back to help the kids through doors and protect walls. But not a single kid who has played with it wants those wings in since that is never how they see Buzz doing it. And finally, like many toys, there is an on/off button. This button is really hard for little fingers to turn on and off, so either it doesn't get turned off (batteries run out) or they have to remember to ask for an older person to help. I just like it when toys can be enjoyed by kids a bit more independently when they are built for that intended age group. And there are many ways they could have created this product making it easier for kids to use.

I bought this for my 3 year old for Halloween. Pros: Durable, wings bend... Cons: Hard to get in and out of. Other than being difficult to put on for him, it would be great for older kids that have patience. Good product.

My little boy loved these wings. He kept them on all Christmas Day and said they were his favourite toy. The harness holds them on well and they are not too heavy. The wing span is quite wide and he had to learn to go through doorways sideways which was quite funny. I would recommend the wings for any child who wants to be Buzz Lightyear.
