5.0 out of 5 stars Early American Christmas
This CD contains some traditional choir music, some old time hymns and one folk story. It reminds me of an early American Christmas before radio and television when people gathered around the hearth to sing together, laugh together and tell folk stories. I wish we did that now, ah, that's the life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the album if you want Mr. Ford singing Christmas carols
This album, although enjoyable as a Christmas production, was a huge disappointment as a Tennessee Ernie Ford Christmas album. It should be correctly titled "as told by Tennesse Ernie Ford and sung by the Roger Wagner Chorale". Mr. Ford only sings "Some Children See Him" and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", although he does narrate the album and reads several passages...

I grew up with this album. Christmas wasn't complete without listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford sing "Little Grey Donkey." My sister and I would roll on the floor laughing about the "dash of ugly pills". So glad this finally came available on CD! Hearing it again this past Christmas made me cry with nostalgia. It made my Christmas!

The Story of Christmas ranks right on top with the other music by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
He is the best of the best. This was one of a number purchased on Amazon and all are good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Insirational, December 19, 2011

Some of us have grown up remembering Tennessee Ernie Ford. He was a big part of my childhood...I remember his TV show, (I wasn't very old). When mom brought home this recording on a 33 1/3 LP, it became our Christmas classic. When this presentation was televised it left me with "goosebumps" it was so inspirational. Thus I dashed faster than any of Old St. Nick's reindeers to snatch this CD up. I am glad I did. It is so wonderful, my 91 year old dad won't return it to my collection...he's put it with his "stash" of CD's. Wonderful and Inspirational...that's this recording!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas album emphasizing the spiritual side, December 11, 2011
This review is from: Story of Christmas (Audio CD)
This is another album that was a part of every Christmas around our house when I was a kid. It was one of my favorites, because it is a bit of a different presentation than most Christmas albums. Tennessee Ernie Ford narrates the Christmas story in an abbreviated form, with traditional carols and a few other offerings taking over from time to time in appropriate places. Some of the songs are sung by Ernie himself, and others are beautifully performed by the Roger Wagner Chorale. Either way, we listeners are the winners. Ernie's voice was a real American treasure: deep, strong, and a bit folksy at times. While Ernie had pop hits, his voice really shines with religious music. I don't really listen to spiritual music outside of Christmas music, but a couple of Gospel albums by Ernie are an exception, as the music is just too beautiful to not partake of from time to time.

This is a great album for Christian families to introduce their kids to moving Christmas music while reinforcing the Christmas story. However, you don't have to be church-goers to appreciate this effort. Anyone who enjoys beautiful Christmas music will appreciate this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Christmas Story by Tennesse Ernie Ford, January 27, 2011

I had been looking to replace the LP that I had with Tennessee Ernie Ford. I found it here on Amazon. The stories that he tells are timeless. The Christmas Donkey tells of the donkey that carried Mary and Joseph into Bethlehem on the nights before Jesus' birth. His story telling is clear and simple and enjoyable by people of all ages. The music is celebratory of Christ's birth and what led to his live. A must have for any families to celebrate a Christian life.
