Just enough words for a toddler to remember,
By P Davis (Eagle, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Story of Easter (Board book)
I was so impressed with the Christmas version of this book, given to me as a gift, that I am now purchasing the entire collection of holiday stories (Valentines, Easter, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving). This book is just perfect for toddlers. First, its a board book style, built for many readings and little fingers...next the story is both meaningful and easily stated, just enough words for a toddler to remember. The books explain religious stories and how they are celebrated. I liked relating this with my children, who are at the age where they soak in new experiences from everything around them.

Great book.,

This is prefect for explaining Easter to my 3 year old. Not over detailed but just enough. We have the Christmas one too and love it also.

Great book for toddlers,

As other reviewers said, this book is an excellent way to explain the Easter story to a 3 year old. I agree with another reviewer that the last page isn't really something that a young child can understand but in time and after hearing that each year they will grow to understand what it means. We used this book in our church for a children's sermon and the pastor used it for our Mother's Day Out program when she had a talk with the children about Easter. I will probably be purchasing another copy to give as a gift to my godson.

I found that my 2.5 year old daughter loves these books. It helps her to understand the story behind the holiday. We also have the Story of Valentine's Day...its easy to understand for the little ones and tells the story! I'll be buying more of these for each holiday...

Short and Sweet,

The book is the perfect length to keep the attention of an infant. My son loves books and their illustrations. A perfect introductory to the story of Easter. A great Easter gift.

Ok, but pictures very 70's,
This review is from: The Story of Easter (Board book)
This book is alright, but the pictures almost kill it. Very 70's looking and kinda strange. Wouldn't recomend it, but the other book by candycane press "What is Easter?" is great and you should get that one instead.

I bought this board book for my son so I can start planting seeds early on about the importance of Easter. I thought the words were great, but the illustrations were lacking. For such a serious topic, the pictures were a bit on the strange side and some just seemed completely out of place with the words next to them. I was a bit disappointed in the book and would recommend buying another board book on Easter if you can find it or a Kids Bible.

This little book effectively (and beautifully) tells the real Easter story. It is understandable to a toddler and the lovely illustrations hold their attention. I found this to be the PERFECT addition to my grandchildren's Easter baskets. Many times the real reason for the Easter celebration gets lost among the colored eggs, bunnies, candy, etc. -- The Story of Easter it clear in a joyous childlike way!

The Story of Easter,

ISBN 0824940903 - Printed and bound in Mexico. Age range not stated, but back cover text mentions "very young children." Board book binding, 26 pages. Published by Candy Cane Press/Ideals Publication Incorporated. By Patricia A. Pingry, illustrated by Lorraine Wells. LCCC number 97-41531.
In simple text, Spring is introduced and the biblical story of Easter is told. Who Jesus was, why he died and how he lived again lead to details of modern-day celebrations of him, like attending church on Easter and why there are crosses on top of churches. The board pages are sturdy, which allows them to take much abuse, and their thickness is easier for children's small fingers to turn than thin paper. The glossiness of the pages means they wipe clean easily. The book is small, about 5 x 6 inches, so it's a good size for taking along when you're out. The text is, of course, the Christian-based fictional tale of Jesus. This means the book will be of little interest to non-Christians - there's no Easter bunny or baskets here. Christians will enjoy the opportunity to share this part of their mythology with their children, but some may find that the idea of Jesus's death and his coming back to life might be a little too much for the littlest kids to grasp. The text is simple and written in a large handwriting-like font. Beginning readers should have little difficulty with the vocabulary. The illustrations are pleasant, but odd. They remind me of what you'd get if you gave a childrens' coloring book to a young adult and had him/her color it in. Not terrible, just somewhat devoid of interest. Overall, I'm just not a fan of telling our children that fairy tales are real, so I have a hard time appreciating a book like this. - AnnaLovesBooks

This is a good book for younger children. It explains the story in the most basic way. The pictures are great too.
