3.0 out of 5 stars There is a lack of explanation of exactly what stock is, July 30, 2008
This review is from: The Story of the New York Stock Exchange (Corner Stones of Freedom) (Library Binding)
If you keep even half an eye or ear tuned to the news, you cannot help but hear about the American stock market. Even children are exposed to this news, if only as a consequence of it being part of the environment. The phrase "Dow Jones" is heard on a regular basis and the behavior of the stock market affects the lives of everyone.

Given this background, every citizen should have some understanding of what the stock market is and this book is designed to do that. While it is excellent in giving the history of the market, it is weak in explaining exactly what stock in a company is. I could not find the word corporation in the index, which is a glaring omission. An additional two paragraphs explaining the concept of stock in a limited liability company would have done a great deal to improve the quality of the book.
