Father Piat offers a wealth of detail about the families of Therese's parents, Louis Martin and Zelie Guerin, and about the family life they enjoyed, especially up to the birth of their ninth and last child. The tone is somewhat worshipful, but the book is well worth while for all lovers of Therese.

The book is written in the older style (reprint originally printed 1945), and has a somewhat dated floral religious tone of its time. This could be a detractor to some; however, it is the liberally sprinkled with primary source documents letters written by the family members and history of the period. For the faithful who wants a better understanding of the trails and what life was like for St. Therese this is the book to read.

This book is an inspiration. The Martin family lives for each other in charity and self giving. No sacrifice is too big or small in their desire to please Our Lord and one another. If more families would follow their example of total self giving, we would have a much happier world. I was deeply touched by it and highly recommend it for anyone searching for real love and how to put your faith in practice in the most menial daily tasks.
